Expect recruiting to heat up for this guy; Gulley has marginal size but is an absolute burner with great burst, play-speed and acceleration. Utilizes his smaller stature to his advantage as he hits the hole extremely quick with a low center of gravity that allows him to burst through the small seams just as they open. Shows great suddenness picking and darting his way through traffic rarely giving defenders a clean shot. Runs with great body control. Has the loose hips and rare lateral foot-quickness to sidestep and jump-cut the initial traffic laterally without gearing down much. Most productive when he finds the closest north-south cutback crease and accelerates through. His great initial burst and momentum coupled with his hard running style allows him to break his fair share of initial contact. Deceptively explosive. Never stops his feet and displays very good balance. However, durability is still an issue and at this time he projects best as a change-of-pace runner than a guy who will be able to offer good in-line college production. Does look a bit quicker than fast as well at times, despite his ability to switch gears and separate in the second level. Bottom line, if Gulley can land in an open spread at the next level under an offensive coordinator who moves him around creatively to create mismatches in space, he could become one this class’ biggest sleepers. Will need to polish his receiving skills.
