LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas coach Bill Self has announced that forward Hunter Mickelson (6-foot-10, 245 pounds), has signed a grant-in-aid agreement to play men’s basketball at KU. Arkansas transfer Hunter Mickelson has decided to head to Kansas. The 6’10″ 240 lbs big man from Jonesboro, Arkansas averaged 5.4 points per game and 3.5 rebounds per game last season for the Razerbacks. However, Mickelson’s best skill right now is as a shot blocker. With Jeff Withey on his way to the NBA, Mickelson looks to help the Jayhawks protect the rim in 2014-15 while Embiid holds it down this upcoming season. Mickelson, along with incoming freshman Joel Embiid, will certainly make it tough for opponents to score inside the paint.
The Jayhawk Invitational will tip off its second year of being played in Olathe, Kansas starting on Friday evening through Sunday. Premiere AAU programs from around the country will be in town for the tournament, including the top program in the mid-west KC Run GMC. KC Run GMC produced stars like Travis Releford, Conner Frankamp and Brady Morningstar amongst others throughout the years. Run GMC will be joined by the Illinois Wolves, Net Gain Sports, Houston Defenders (Harrison twins), Texas Select, Utah Prospects, Las Vegas Prospects, SYF Players (Mitch McGary), Dallas Mustangs (LeBryan Nash), LAX Hoops, Urban DFW, Louisville Magic and many more. The 2012 Tournament Champion I-Can Hoops will be looking to repeat as they make the trip east from California for the tournament.
