Chiefs Draft Post FA
Obviously Free Agency isn't over but we just addressed our most pressing needs over the past few days. Eric Winston was a HUGE get and was crucial for us to get, because otherwise, Chiefs fans would have been up in arms for Pioli to get out of KC. But overall he's done a really solid job. Winston fills our biggest need, Hillis was a necessity for a recovering Charles, Boss was needed for depth for an injury prone Moeaki, plus we can run a lot of 2 TE sets. We replaced Carr with Routt which is pretty much a lateral move. Then we grabbed Brady Quinn yesterday who I think can be a really good back up and possibly a starter one day he just hasn't got the chance being in a shitty organization in Cleveland, and then getting dumped in Denver for the Tebow Show. We'll see how he does now that he's reunited with Crennel and Daboll. So with all these additions here are the positions that I think we need to focus on in the upcoming draft, only a little over a month away!!
In order:
NT (Dontari Poe would be an amazing pick IMO if he's still there)
ILB (I don't know if Hightower from Alabama will drop to the 2nd round but that would be a really good pick up if he's there. Or perhaps Vontaze Burfict who seems to be dropping a little bit due to character issues. Not unlike our Justin Houston)
LG (Ryan Lilja has another year on his contract but his play decreased a bit last season. Even if it's not a starter we're drafting, the line needs depth and we could groom them into a starting role for when Lilja leaves)
DE (I think this is a make or break year for Tyson Jackson and perhaps Glenn Dorsey as well. I know their jobs aren't really sack makers but my God they hardly ever get into the backfield. We have Allen Bailey who I think can be really good but he didn't get a whole lot of playing time to prove it. A NT is the more pressing need but a really good 3-4 DE wouldn't hurt either)
FB We lost McClain to San Diego (smh) and we might lose Jackie Battle too. We need to have someone besides Hillis and Charles and most teams have 3 backs so this is a need that should be looked at)
Rest of the draft is up in the air, much like it always is in the 5-7 rounds.

Hillis will definitely play a FB role. I heard they are still interested in Tolbert.
I strongly agree with the OP in general. I think Poe will be the first round pick if it isn't traded and if he is there. ILB and inside oline help are definitely the next biggest glaring needs after NT.

If available, Poe is the first pick. I think Burfict may fall all the way to the second round due to his off-the-field issues and poor combine showing. If we drafted those 2 in the first and second, I'd be satisfied.
If Poe's gone (which is entirely possible), here's a few names to keep and eye on:
1) Luke Kuechly ILB BC: an absolute tackling machine (check out his college stats). he would be the perfect compliment to DJ.
2) David DeCastro G Stanford: best guard in the draft.
3) Jonathan Martin OT Stanford: Not really the biggest need since we signed Winston, but you could (not that you necessarily should) draft Martin, start him at LT and move Albert to guard (if the coaching staff isn't sold on Asamoah).
Other (rather unlikely) possibilities: Devon Still DT PSU, Ryan Tannehill QB aTm

God I hope we don't draft Tannehill. I would lose it if we spend our first pick on a QB. Even the 2nd round I don't know that we should draft a QB. Now if Weeden is there in the 3rd then I'd be okay with that. Maybe Cousins too.
You think with Denver signing Peyton now, the Chiefs see this and say hey if Peyton's going to be in our division the next few years we need to have a defense that is going to give him fits. That's why I think we're gona target a NT with that first pick and ILB with the second. Possibly vice versa.

Someone will pull the trigger on tannehill in the top 15...and I agree. I hope it's not us.

Poe sucks. he had a good combine but watch him on film he doesn't move well and he can't hold his own in CUSA.
Kuetchy from BC is the pick if he's there. Take him and you are set at LB for a long time. That dude is awesome in pass defense and a good tackler.

No way Kuechly is still there from all the buzz he's been getting.
In an early mock before him and Poe blew up where I was drafting as the Chiefs I got Kuechly then Poe. I would have loved that but it just doesn't seem possible now. I agree with you the more I see from Poe. Alameda Ta'Amu might be better.
