Lasting Image/Storyline from the 2011-12 Season
Now that the season has been over for a little while, what is everyone's lasting image and storyline from this season? Basically, what one play/moment defines the season for you?
With all due respect to T-Rob's and-one/block to cap the Missouri game and the ending to the OSU and UNC games, the lasting image for me was the Tyshawn to T-Rob alley opp in the opening minutes against Baylor. Until that game, we were still the underdogs to win the Big 12 in the eyes of the media. We kept hearing about how we had no talent and that "we'd be lucky to finish 5th." That play made a statement against Baylor.
The storyline has to be T-Rob's story. He lost everything and still became an all-time great Jayhawk. From 6th man to conference POY.
Tyshawn also offered a great story this year too. He overcame a tumultuous career and a rough start to the season to completely remake his legacy. His clutch play in overtime against Mizzou sort of capped the process. He ended the season as first team all big 12 and will always hold a special place in the hearts of Jayhawk nation.
Thoughts?

I agree! I also felt Luke that second half of the Iowa State game where Tyshawn went off. I really think that's when it all just came together.

The alley oop from EJ to TT in the Purdue game stands out to me, one of the great plays of the year.
The T-Rob block on Pressy will go down as one of the greatest plays ever. Kinda reminds me a lot of the Reesing to Meir TD pass against MU at Arrowhead. Instant classics.

The last three minutes of the Purdue game. It pretty much sums up our team this past year by showing our toughness, athleticism, will to win, and types of games we won in the tournament.

Yikes. Anyway, moving back on topic. To me the storylines were T-Rob willing himself into a top 5 player, Tyshawn brushing off massive amounts of unfair criticism from KU fans and balling out off control, and Bill Self clownsuiting any doubters. Honorable mention to Elijah for becoming one off the best interviews in college sports and foreshadowing his role as "the Man" next year.
For me, the play that defines the season is easy. Tyshawn's steal and subsequent turnover at the end of the Ohio State game. Why we love him and why some don't all wrapped up.

Yeah the T-Rob block will make a nice addition to the pregame video...also doesn't hurt that it kept us alive in the last meeting with Missouri ever.

Easy....Relly's 28pt explosion vs Oklahoma. If you remember, we were down at halftime and with the whole team struggling Releford carries us to victory. Night in and night out he locks down other teams best player, but for him to get to shine for a night was awesome. One of my favorite jhawks of all time!

good = Trobs block to put us into OT in the last time we ever play the slavers in Allen
bad = not even sure who it was, I think EJ, driving into the lane late in the championship game against Davis and freezing up due to block phobia

Robinson's story is among the greatest in KU history but I feel that was more a focal point a year ago. This year to me the storyline is without a doubt the coming of age of Tyshawn. There were fans wishing harm on him, wanting him benched, asking to reduce his role and as it turned out we went as far as he could take us.
As for the image it again is Tyshawn hitting the two free throws against Missouri. It is an immeasurable thing but I believe that moment changed the the entire complexion of the season. Would we have come back from double digit deficits against Purdue, NCState and Ohio State had we not come back from 19 down to MU? Impossible to say for sure but I think it went a long way to how we finished the season.

Phil Pressey's desperation heave, and subsequent brick against Norfolk State, followed by a stream of tears and Kim English slamming the stall door in the locker room (DLOL!).
We'd been hearing lots of noise from Fizzou fans......the refs cheated them, they are the Big XII champs because they won the tournament, and the most hilarious of all.......many MU fans were saying that we would lose in the first round of the NCAA's without "the refs helping us". As we all know, we wound up in the title game, whilst THEY flamed out in the first round to a team that got blown out in the next game against Florida by 35 points.
To me, this is the MOST HILARIOUS way our rivalry with Mizzou could've possibly ended!
