Don't hate because the Royals haven't been competitive since 85.

As a Cards fan, this sucks, but it's not completely unexpected. St. Louis will be alright, they're an organization that knows how to build competitive teams. I wouldn't be surprised if they went after Prince Fielder to replace him (though I think everyone would rather have Pujols).

At any rate, it's hard to fault a guy for taking a quarter of a billion dollar contract. My main issue is now I don't know what to do with my Pujols jersey. I guess if I hang on to it long enough it will be vintage and cool?

I will fault a guy for taking what amounts to an extra 3 million per season (yes a lot of money to us but not much on top of 22 million) to leave a city that loved him and probably would have built a statue of him next to Stan the Man.

Stl knew this was coming. They had all the chances in the world to sign him. They F-ed around and F-ed around. If they really wanted him, they should have signed him last off season. They knew what his terms where.

yep. I think the 10 year contract was the sticking point though, and I can't fault them for that. In 10 years Pujols will be 41. How many players are still productive in their late 30s, let alone 40s?

No I agree with that. It's obvious though that they sacked up and still offered him that. If they were going to do it anyway, why not last year. I think they thought there wouldn't be that market for him. They played the game and they lost. It happens.

It all makes sense now, anybody see the TV deal LAA got? $3B over 20 years?! That's where the money came from. The TV deal is 4x the Royals' payroll per year!
