LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football head coach Charlie Weis announced the dismissal of KU players Collin Garrett and Chris Robinson from the team here Monday afternoon. Garrett, a sophomore from Beaumont, Texas and Robinson, a redshirt freshman from Sanford, Fla., were both dismissed for a violation of team rules.

Garrett, a linebacker, saw action in six games as a true freshman in 2011. He made his career debut against Oklahoma, collecting four tackles versus the Sooners. He also had one tackle in games versus Kansas State, Baylor and Missouri. Robinson, a cornerback, did not see any action during the 2011 season and was redshirted.

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas and the City of Lawrence will rename stretches of two streets after former KU football coach and player Don Fambrough at a ceremony on Saturday, April 28.

The ceremony, which will feature KU officials, Lawrence City Commissioner Hugh Carter and Fambrough’s son Preston, will take place at 11:15 a.m. at what is now the intersection of 11th and Maine Streets.

The Lawrence City Commission voted in March of 2012 to rename 11th Street, from Mississippi Street to Missouri Street, Fambrough Drive.  KU will rename the stretch of Maine Street behind the Memorial Stadium press box Fambrough Way. Read the rest of this entry »

The long awaited announcement by 2012 PF Tony Parker Tony Parker (Lithonia, GA/Miller Grove) is set to happen today at a press conference inside Miller Grove High School at 3:00 pm cst. Parker will choose between UCLA, Duke, Ohio State, Memphis, Georgia and Kansas. As TheShiver.com reported a couple of weeks ago – popular belief is that UCLA will be the school Parker picks during his press conference, but there is no doubt that the other schools in the mix are hoping to pull an upset by landing Parker.

KU to appeal McCay decision

LAWRENCE, Kan. – The University of Kansas will appeal sophomore wide receiver Justin McCay’s eligibility waiver request directly to the NCAA Subcommittee for Legislative Relief after the NCAA staff Friday denied KU’s original waiver request.

KU, because of McCay’s extenuating personal circumstances, had requested a waiver of the NCAA’s rule that requires transfers to sit out a year of competition. The NCAA staff informed KU Friday that it could not approve KU’s request for a waiver based on the guidelines the staff is required to follow.

As the Oklahoma City Thunder have risen to a powerhouse level NBA contender, it’s hard not to argue that the two guys it has to mean the most to are Kevin Durant and Nick Collison. Collison joined the then Seattle Supersonics in 2004 and remains, alongside Kevin Durant, as the only two guys truly from the old guard. The 2004 season with Rarshard Lewis and Ray Allen made noise, they won the division, but everything following was a team marred by hardships, most notably when a combustible situation between owner and city and arena ended tragically for Seattle fans. The team was sold to Clay Bennett  in 2006; it was moved to Oklahoma City in 2008.
