Once again Perry Ellis showed why he is considered to be one of the best players in the 2012 class this season at Wichita Heights. Ellis led his Falcons team to their 4th straight State Championship and he won his 4th straight Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year award. Ellis was also named to the McDonald’s All American game in Chicago. During his 4 years at Heights there simply hasn’t been much that Ellis hasn’t accomplished both on and off the court. Now he is taking his talents to Lawrence where he hopes to accomplish many more of his goals.

HAMPTON, Va. – Justin Jackson has been considered one of the best prospects in the class of 2014 for quite some time. A teammate of Justise Winslow on the AAU circuit with the U17 Houston Hoops squad, Jackson has continued to improve his game as time has gone by.

The Shiver had the chance to speak with Jackson, a 6-foot-7, 180-pound small forward out of HCYA (TX), while at Session #2 of the Nike EYBL this weekend.

Jackson said that he holds scholarship offers from Ohio State, Washington, Georgetown, Virginia, Virginia Tech (former staff), Texas, Texas A&M, and Baylor. Additionally, he is garnering looks from North Carolina, Duke, Florida, Kansas, Stanford, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Read the rest of this entry »

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas forward Kevin Young will try out for the Puerto Rico Senior National Team later this month. The Puerto Rico national squad will vie for one of three final spots for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London by competing in the FIBA Olympic World Qualifying Tournament July 2-8 in Caracas, Venezuela. A total of 12 teams will be in the competition.

“I’m totally on board for Kevin to get the opportunity to try out for Puerto Rico,” Kansas head coach Bill Self said. “We are still a ways away from knowing details to see if he has a legitimate shot.”

Young, who will be entering his senior season at Kansas in 2012-13, was a top reserve for the Jayhawks last year appearing in 38 games and averaging 11.4 minutes, 3.4 points and 3.0 rebounds. Read the rest of this entry »

Check out highlights of 2013 safety Malik Rucker (New Hope, MN/Cooper). The 6’0″ 178 lbs Rucker was in Lawrence for the spring game last weekend and is a top prospect for the Kansas staff. Besides Kansas, Rucker is considering Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, Iowa State, Illinois and many more.

Kansas one of many for Pinson

HAMPTON, Va. – Theo Pinson is one of the best long term prospects in the nation due to his impressive blend of athleticism, length and overall skill. The 6-foot-6, 185-pound small forward is elite member of a 2014 class that is loaded at the top.

The Shiver had the opportunity to catch up with Pinson this past weekend in Virginia, where he was with the CP3 All-Stars for Session #2 of the Nike EYBL.

Pinson listed scholarship offers from Syracuse, Tennessee, Alabama, Duke, Louisville, North Carolina State, Wake Forest, Florida State, and the former Virginia Tech staff.
