KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas junior forward Thomas Robinson has been named to the 2012 NABC Coaches’ Division I All-America First Team, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Tuesday.

The ESPN.com National Player of the Year, Big 12 Player of the Year and Naismith and Wooden awards finalist, Robinson leads the nation with 25 double-doubles in 2011-12, which is tied for the Kansas single-season record set by Drew Gooden in 2002. The Washington, D.C., native, Robinson is the only player in the Big 12 to average a double-double with 17.7 points and 11.8 rebounds. A certain consensus All-American first-team selection and four-time Big 12 Player of the Week this season, Robinson’s 11.8 boards per game are second nationally. Read the rest of this entry »

 

ATLANTA, Ga. – Kansas junior Thomas Robinson has been named one of four finalists for the Naismith Men’s College Basketball Player of the Year presented by AT&T, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Monday.

The other three finalists for the award are Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis, Michigan State senior Draymond Green and Creighton sophomore Doug McDermott.

Weekend Rewind

Not much really happened this past weekend. For the most part it was pretty boring and quiet. Kansas advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after putting the clamps down on Purdue in the second half and Elijah Johnson turning into Captain Takeover.  Missouri went all Missouri in their opening game of the tournament. Duke got knocked out of the tourney early, a loss that is worse than Kansas losing to Bucknell in 2005 but you won’t hear many call Coach K out for it. Read the rest of this entry »

Next – Purdue

For only the fifth time the Kansas Jayhawks will face the Purdue Boilermakers on a basketball court. The winner will take a commanding 3-2 lead in the series, and Kansas will be going for two in a row over the Boilermakers, last winning in 1997 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. In 1994 it was Purdue that bounced Kansas from the NCAA Tournament and gave the world a great poster – followed by a handshake.

Morning Round Up

So what has to be done in order to get the opening  Thursday and Friday of  the NCAA Tournament to be considered a National Holiday? When are National Holiday’s added? Who gets to determine that? Shouldn’t the people of America get to vote on what should be a National Holiday? And who is the guy that thought a 40 hour + work week starting at 8:00 am was a good idea? And why would anyone hear that guys pitch and agree? If you think about – those people are the ones responsible for the decline in work productivity during the greatest two weekdays in sports. Blaming workers, the NCAA Tourney, college basketball, the media or whoever is worthless in this situation. If companies aren’t going to be cool (and they really should be waaaaay cooler) and let people take these two days off so that they can enjoy all that is the NCAA Tournament then I don’t feel sorry for said companies. Really – you already trap employees inside your walls for more hours than they get to spend at home, awake, with their families. Read the rest of this entry »
