SARASOTA, Fla. – Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self was among the celebrities from the world of sports and entertainment crowded the Ritz-Carlton Sarasota on Friday for the Eighth Annual Dick Vitale Gala to raise money in the fight against pediatric cancer through The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

The event was hosted by ESPN’s Dan Shulman and honored three sports icons: Self, former Florida State University and Hall of Fame football coach Bobby Bowden and former University of Connecticut and Hall of Fame basketball coach Jim Calhoun. Read the rest of this entry »

IRIVING, Texas – Kansas’ men’s basketball game at Florida on Dec. 10 will be part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge, the two conferences announced Tuesday. The Big 12/SEC Challenge will begin during the 2013-14 season.

“This will be very good for our league,” Kansas coach Bill Self said. “We have a very difficult draw with our game in Gainesville (Florida), but it should be a great preparation game; one that will warrant a lot of national attention. Florida has one of the better rosters in America and has a chance to win it all. Hopefully we’re moving in that direction as well.
