Another teams expense, yes. Classless for me to point it out to those who haven’t seen it. Absolutely. But you can’t not laugh at it.

Chargers sell tickets to Chiefs fans.

Last week, a Chargers ticket sales representative solicited Chiefs fans on blogs and forums to buy tickets to the November 1st Thursday night Chargers game against the Chiefs.

Many Chargers fans gave a scathing response, filling up comment sections with words like “pathetic” and “weak,” according to Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune.

“I totally understand that reaction,” said A.G. Spanos, the team’s executive vice president and chief executive officer. “It’s disappointing because we’ve been so aggressive this year with trying to sell to new Chargers fans. We hired 18 new people. We’re launching a season-ticket holder referral program, where season-ticket holders are going to be able to get rewards if they refer a new Chargers season-ticket holder customer.

“We’ve been very aggressive. We’re trying our best to pack the stadium with Chargers fans. This article, it hurt.”

“This was an overeager sales rep, I would say, who was selling groups,” Spanos said. “He acted on his own without checking with his manager. We have sold to visiting fan groups in the past. We don’t proactively solicit them for new business. That’s not a standard practice of the Chargers.

“I was disappointed the story made headlines. It paints the organization in a poor light, and that’s not how we operate. Our goal is to maximize our home-field advantage. But I’m grateful to clarify our policies with our sales reps. … That’s not a policy of ours, to go out and seek business from visiting teams’ sites.”

by cory hedgepeth – When a great season comes to an end, it’s never easy, particularly when the evil foe that steals the treasure is Kentucky. And Calipari. When we first see the reality (the travel 3-point shot), it manifest itself as shock. The body sort of shuts down and delays the acceptance of the reality of the situation. But then it moves on to things like anger, mental headline tickers titled “Calipari’s hair is still awful” and “vacated Final Fours” and “is that girl really dipping her burger in ranch dressing?” Sorry for the tangent, I just found that so strange.

Last Monday in Los Angeles was a gorgeous sunny day. This isn’t going to be some anecdote intended to make the Midwestern following feel lousy (heck I think the weather was great there for the most part), its just the way it was. Sunny, clear, a constant summerish breeze, less smog and gun fire. Around 9am I went to my local mailbox store to mail a package. The owner was taping a box together, he took a moment to look up from his tape gunning and said to me, “those Jayhawks going to pull it out for us tonight?” The owner is from Los Angeles and has probably never been to Kansas before. But that didn’t matter, Kansas was soundly America’s team that night, as evidenced at the West Hollywood mailbox store. Us. I got that feeling immediately, the feeling of heavenly manipulation. Divine Intervention. As if God himself was like, “Kentucky is evil. Calipari has stiff weird hair. Let there be Kansas. Let there be only the light of Jayhawks. Let Ashley Judd keep taking on lesser and lesser respectable roles.”

This is a diary of the mental stages I went through on my National Championship journey in West Hollywood, California.

I wasn’t one of the lucky Jayhawk fans on Mass Street last night amongst a soiree of elated revelers. I wasn’t one of the many representing the “Rock Chalk” chants on Bourbon street into the wee hours of the bayou night, nope, that wasn’t me. I was at Disneyland in Southern California. It was my first trip to Disneyland. Even as a kid, I was never one for magic and fantasy. Being a creative writer, I still remain often close to home with my work in the “inspired by” sort of way. Disneyland is a far cry from that mindset.

When my girlfriend and I woke on Saturday morning, the stated plan was as follows:

by cory hedgepeth – Thomas Robinson became the first unanimous All-American in the last couple of years. Living up to that set standard, he has carried his team to the Final Four, embracing the moments before today with what seems to be a surplus of championship grade pedigree: A pedigree evolved only in the prior years that weren’t so easy for the now highly touted future NBA pick. Last year included the loss of his grandparents and his mother, a moment of silence being held on the court of Allen Fieldhouse, a proud coach Self stating, “for him to even be out there [on the court] was remarkable.”

Thomas Robinson, well he’s my favorite Jayhawk in a long time.

With Kansas and Ohio State both punching their tickets to New Orleans, much will be made of Jarred Sullinger, Thomas Robinson, and even Jeff Withey, but the real key to the game may likely come from the production and efficiency at the Point Guard position. Saturday’s Final Four matchup between the Jayhawks and Buckeyes will feature two Point Guards that have both played outstanding throughout the tournament in Kansas Jayhawk Tyshawn Taylor and Ohio State Buckeye Aaron Craft.
