The Kansas basketball program often plays host to some of the best high school basketball players in the country, and most of those players find it hard to point out at school that plays host better than Kansas. Only a handful of college basketball programs carry as much national prestige around with them wherever they go, but none of those programs can match the tradition that is Kansas basketball. The inventor of the game was KU’s first coach and the guy that replaced him is the Godfather of college basketball coaching. Game over.
Every once in awhile the Jayhawks play host to a player that has been talked about, wished for and even put on the top of the list for Santa. On Saturday, one such player will be in Lawrence for his official visit. This visit has been circled on calenders and smart phones have been set to send off a reminder text for months. This official visit will be his last so it should be clear to all Kansas fans that Julius Randle saved the best for last.
“Yea I am,” said Randle when TheShiver.com asked if he’s ready for the craziness that the Kansas fans inside Allen Fieldhouse will provide this weekend.
Randle’s visit to Texas last weekend leaves just the trip to Kansas before trying to make his decision. Oklahoma, NC State, Kentucky and Florida round out the list of schools he’s still considering.
Randle will arrive in Lawrence early Saturday morning. According to him, he does plan on being there for College GameDay, which is open for fans.
One thing is for sure – red velvet cake will likely be on hand for Randle’s mom, Carolyn Kyles. It’s her favorite and according to Jason Jordan of USA Today High School, every school has made sure to have some ready for her. Jordan also adds a quote from Kyles about their upcoming trip to Kansas.
“They said they’re ready for us.”
Oh yes they are.
