The Kansas Jayhawks looked like they were putting the game away and coasting to their 4th win of the season in the second half Monday night against San Jose State. The Jayhawks saw their lead climb to 24 points with just over twelve minutes left in the game before 16,300 saw something they likely have never seen before when the Jayhawks spent the next ten plus minutes without a field goal inside Allen Fieldhouse. The Spartans used this time wisely by putting the ball into the hot shooting hands of guard James Kinney. Kinney, who finished with 30 points on 11-26 shooting, torched Kansas over that ten minute stretch to get the Spartans within 7 with just over 6 minutes left in the game. Kansas finally answered when Elijah Johnson’s jumper broke the Kansas slump and Kansas pulled away to win 70-57.

The Jayhawks were led by Jeff Withey’s history making triple double. Withey’s 16 points, 12 rebounds and 12 blocks made it only the second triple double in Kansas history. Withey’s 12 blocks also made the record books as the most in a single game by a Jayhawk since Kansas started recording block shots during the 1974-75 season.
