Kansas head coach Bill Self on senior forward Kevin Young who broke his right hand in practice Thursday during a defense drill (running into a screen): “Kevin (Young) broke a bone in the middle of his hand. Surgery was performed (Friday) this morning to insert a screw. He should be back shooting and non-contact within 10 days and hopefully back on the court within two weeks. I think it’s a setback for Kevin and us because he’s worked so hard and has been playing so well. I think this will give somebody else an opportunity to get some reps and hopefully better prepare themselves. I know Kevin will not lose any conditioning or anything.”

Young was a top reserve on last season’ Kansas’ Big 12 Championship and NCAA runner-up team. The 6-8, 190-poind Perris, Calif., native averaged 11.4 minutes, 3.4 points and 3.0 rebounds in 2011-12 for Kansas.
