Charlie Weis is an interesting character. Week after week his Jayhawks ride an emotional rollercoaster that nearly always (all except one) ends with disappointment and let down. So after a 20-14 loss to the Oklahoma State Cowboys Saturday, I expected to see a surly and frustrated Weis—nothing we have seen from him thus far in Lawrence.
Even ESPN College Gameday’s Chris Fowler made a comment Saturday morning about Weis’ sorely personality while in South Bend saying, “We were frankly ‘uninvited’ for awhile, but that coach is gone.”
But the Weis we have seen in Lawrence, although calculated and defensive of his players, has been fairly friendly and upbeat despite being dealt some tough losses. Saturday was another one of those let downs but this one also included the benching of HIS star QB Dayne Crist.
Though I had a suspicion Weis would deflect the day’s events by making an example out of a brave media member asking about the change, Weis was honest and surprisingly upfront about the move.
Here are Weis’ comments immediately following the loss to the Cowboys where he talks about Michael Cummings’ coming out party, his defense’s impressive day, and if he plans on making a permanent move next week.
