Although his football team had just lost 56-16 to their instate rival K-state you wouldn’t have known it when head coach Charlie Weis walked into the barn the media were huddled in after the game. Weis was calm, smiling, almost cheerful. But Weis knew this was going to be a rebuilding project from the moment he signed on to coach at Kansas and Saturday was just one of many more “teaching moments” for Weis. The good news is that despite this loss, and the three before it, Coach Weis will start practice next week expecting to beat Oklahoma State next weekend much like they expected to knock off the Wildcats Saturday.
For my money I’ve never been more confident in Weis’ ability to turn this program around than I was after listening to him after the K-state game. He struck me as a guy that knows they are getting better, has a long way to go, and yet is excited to take on the next leg of the process.
