The focus will be on QB Dayne Crist but it's the boys in the trenches that will determine the Jayhawks success in 2012.
We started to see signs of life in the passing game last Saturday but the rushing game, which had virtually carried Kansas through the first two weeks, was not much of a factor. For the Jayhawks to walk away with their first road victory in 16 attempts, Kansas has to find a balanced attack. The Northern Illinois squad had a tough defense and a home field advantage that will make it difficult for the Kansas offense to get comfortable. The Jayhawks are a 9.5 point underdog and will have to punch the Huskies in the mouth early and impose their will as opposed to reacting to what works best. The cold hard truth is that this is likely the Jayhawks last “easy” game and if they can not dictate the action on Saturday it is going to be a long 8-game Big 12 season.
Breaking down the game this week is TE Mike Ragone who talks what he plays for on Saturdays. Also talking is virtually the entire offensive line who all agree the one not present on Tuesday, center Trevor Marrongelli, would be the worst dressed for the road trip (the Jayhawks suit up for road games). We also hear from Taylor Cox who says he is happy with whatever his role is Saturday with the return of James Sims.
