Though this Kansas defense gave up over 400-yards to a South Dakota State team that was minus their starting quarterback (3 out of 4 quarters) I thought they were the reason Kansas won this game. Sure the outstanding performance of both the offensive line and running backs Taylor Cox and Tony Pierson had something to do with the outcome but the defense gave the offense time to gel after a shaky start.

In fact, the secondary alone left at least two touchdowns on the field by my count and were one missed gap assignment away from holding the Jackrabbits to under 100-yards of rushing. The defense needs to be significantly better this week in their assignments of Rice will give the Jayhawks a rough day at the office on Saturday.

Defensive Coordinator Dave Campo grades out his defense and lets us know he’s ready to watch some football.

Linebackers Coach DeMontie Cross evaluates his unit’s performance from last Saturday and previews Rice. Cross also discusses the development of freshman Schyler Miles and gives us an update on the injured Anthony McDonald. Also speaking on Wednesday was special teams coordinator/defensive backs coach Clint Bowen.

Players Jordan Tavai, Bradley McDougald, Josh Ford and Kevin Young also talk to TheShiver.com about SDSU, Rice, and the new post-win tradition.
