Though this Kansas defense gave up over 400-yards to a South Dakota State team that was minus their starting quarterback (3 out of 4 quarters) I thought they were the reason Kansas won this game. Sure the outstanding performance of both the offensive line and running backs Taylor Cox and Tony Pierson had something to do with the outcome but the defense gave the offense time to gel after a shaky start.
In fact, the secondary alone left at least two touchdowns on the field by my count and were one missed gap assignment away from holding the Jackrabbits to under 100-yards of rushing.
