Linemen Alexander Beglinger and Aslam Sterling

There was a noticeable new addition in practice this week—emphasis on the noticeable.

That big number seventy-eight is walk-on offensive lineman Alexander Beglinger. The 6-foot-8, 320-pound Belinger started classes, and practice, with his teammates earlier this week. What really caught my eye was how Beglinger made the 6’5″, 360-pound Aslam Sterling look like an average giant size.

Belinger joins the Jayhawks as a transfer from City College of San Fransisco. The same previous school as current Kansas quarterback Turner Baty.

Though everyone I talked to today about this kid seemed to think he had a LONG way to go, the coaching staff must have seen some potential in Beglinger because Coach Weis is not much for keeping around dead weight. With strength and conditioning coach Scott Holsopple leading the charge, this kid has the size to develop into a monster of a tackle. Just don’t expect to hear his name again for at least another year or two.
