2013 PG Jordan Woodard (Edmond Memorial/OK) made his way north on Saturday to unofficially visit the University of Kansas. Woodard, who made the trip with his mother, father and grandmother, was glad to learn more about Kansas during his visit, and to see the basketball program in action during their game against Texas Tech.
“It was good,” Woodard said of his visit to Kansas. “They showed me around campus, the facilities and the atmosphere is always top notch,” added Woodard.
The atmosphere Woodard speaks of is the 16,300 people that crammed their way into Allen Fieldhouse Saturday nigh to watch the Jayhawks defeat Texas Tech.
“I really liked it and the players were cool and the really get along with the staff,” said Woodard. “They [Kansas] are one of the top programs every year so I am definitely going to keep Kansas high on my list,” added Woodard about the Jayhawks.
Woodard attends the same high school as Kansas coach Bill Self, Edmond Memorial, but it was Woodard who put on the show in front of Self a couple of weeks ago.
“I scored 29 in that game and had 18 straight in the second quarter,” said Woodard about his performance in front of Coach Self.
Self does like to mention that he too once ran the court at Edmond Memorial.
“He brings it up almost every time I talk to him,” said Woodard jokingly. “He always says he couldn’t really play,” added Woodard.
Edmond Memorial is getting ready for their playoff run, and will enter the playoffs with only one loss on the season and as one of the favorites to win the State Title.
With the playoffs about to begin and then a busy summer circuit to follow, Woodard hopes to make his college decision before his senior season so he can just enjoy his last year at Edmond Memorial without dealing with the stress that comes along with recruiting.
“I plan to commit somewhere before the season starts, and then sign during the early period,” said Woodard about his current recruitment timetable.
Woodard, off the top of his head, says he’s considering along with Kansas - Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Standford, Marquette and Missouri State among others.
Saturday’s visit to Kansas was unofficial, Woodard added that he feels like Kansas looks to be in a good spot to receive an official visit in the fall.
