Greg Allen is a name Kansas Jayhawk fans will get to know as the freshman defensive back is sure to hit the ground running when he arrives to campus in June. Allen’s 5’11”, 190lb frame makes him a prototypical defensive back that should prosper under defensive coordinator Dave Campo and assistant defensive backs coach Clint Bowen.
During his senior year at Alief Taylor High School, Allen amassed 58 tackles, 13 pass breakups and one interception. He joins Nasir Moore and Ty’ree Williams as Kansas’ 3 defensive back recruits in the 2012 class.
Why Kansas?
“After evaluating my choices I just felt at home at Kansas and felt like it was the right fit. I got along with the coaches and players, and it was close enough to home to where my family could come watch me play”.
Best part of your game?
“I know most of the defenses {Kansas} is going to run. The style of defense Coach Campo runs is the same defense I ran in high school so everything is very familiar. It’s a cover-2/cover-4/man so I can do just about every type of defense they want to run”.
What part of your game needs work?
“Everything really because I just started playing DB 2 years ago so I still need work. I’m a quick learner but I’m just now starting to learn the position of cornerback. I need to get better
at my footwork too”.
What other schools did you consider?
“It was tough at first. It was Utah, Memphis, Nebraska, Ole Miss, and New Mexico. After the second visit {to Kansas} though I was like ‘I’m done’. They had everything I wanted fromgreat coaches to a great environment”.
How you fit in?
“I’m gonna come in and compete and I think I’ll do real good. I should get a lot of playing time and hoping to start”.
