The Kansas Jayhawks escaped with a win against Texas on Saturday after J’Covan Brown’s three point attempt to tie the game bounced off the rim as time ran out. Kansas, now 6-0 in Big 12 play, led 39-27 at halftime and 41-27 early in the second half before the Longhorns once again fought their way back into the game throughout the second half before falling 69-66 to Kansas.
Texas was lead by Brown with 24 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Brown wasn’t the only reason the Longhorns found themselves leading by 4 points at the under 4:00 timeout in the second half. Texas beat Kansas on the glass 40-33, including 13 offensive rebounds. Those rebounds not only led to easy baskets for the Longhorns, but they also led to the Longhorns getting to the free throw line where they hit 16-17.
Kansas was led by senior Tyshawn Taylor’s 22 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 0 turnovers. Taylor went 3-6 from three and 5-7 from the free throw line. Junior Thomas Robinson found himself in foul trouble throughout the game which helped the Longhorns to keep Robinson off the glass. However, Robinson would get it going in the second half as he finished with 17 points and 9 rebounds in the game.
Kansas shot 44.6% for the game to UT’s 34.4%.
Kansas, who had 7 assists in the first 12 minutes of the game, finished with 10 assists to 6 turnovers. Texas finished with 14 assists to 9 turnovers.
