Former Oklahoma head coach Jeff Capel spent a lot of time recruiting 2012 PF Perry Ellis(Wichita, KS/Heights) during his time in Norman, Oklahoma. Now Capel has moved back to a very familiar place – Durham, North Carolina. Capel is back at Duke, where he both played and coached under Coach K, as an assistant coach and has already hit the recruiting trail hard over the past few weeks. One of the recruits he’s targeted for the Blue Devils is the 3 time Kansas Gatorade Player of Year that he coveted while at Oklahoma.
According to his mother, Fonda Ellis, Perry will indeed add the Duke Blue Devils to the list of schools he’s currently considering – Kansas, Memphis, Kansas State, Kentucky, Wichita State, Oklahoma. However, Fonda Ellis did say it is still unclear if Duke will be the seventh school on Perry’s list, or if he will replace one of the other six schools.

“We told Perry he should at least talk to Coach K and just hear what he has to say,” said Fonda Ellis. “You are not committing – you are just considering, and why not? Capel has been recruiting Perry for three years, so he (Perry) talked to Capel and Coach K on the phone. It’s just an honor to have them interested I think,” Fonda Ellis added.

Ellis ended his junior season at Wichita Heights high school by winning a third straight State Title and his third straight Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year.
