The Kansas football program once again tapped into the talent rich state of Texas for their latest football commit when three star linebacker, Collin Garrett (Beaumont, TX/West Brook Senior) made the decision to take his talents to Lawrence, Kansas.

For Garrett, the chance to see action on the field early and often was one big reason why joining Jayhawk Nation was an easy decision.

“Well me and my family sat down and talked about it, and they said I have a chance to get on the field early there (KU),” said Garrett. “The coaching staff is really experienced and great, and it just felt like the right fit for me,” he added.

Garrett has yet to see the Kansas campus, but that is something that is coming up very soon for the 6’1″ 190 pound LB.

“I haven’t been yet I’m going on the 17th,” Garrett said about visiting Kansas.

Another reason why Garrett chose Kansas is the the KU coaching staff. A staff he feels is turning the program into a winner.

“Yes,” said Garrett about the coaching staff playing a role in his decision. “I wanted to go somewhere that has experienced coaches that know what their talking about and where I would get coached well and that all across the board at KU,” he added.

Besides Kansas, Garrett had a number of schools hoping to land the speedy linebacker.

“Tulsa, North Texas, Ole Miss and Miami (Ohio),” said Garrett.

It’s not uncommon in the world of college football recruiting for prospects to commit to one school, and to then end up at another once signing day hits. However, according to Garrett, that won’t be the case with him.

“Nah, this is where I wanna go I’m not looking at anyone else,” said Garrett about Kansas.

With his ability to run, the Kansas staff already knows where they see Garrett playing on the field, and Garrett already knows what areas of his game he can improve on before arriving on campus.

“Will linebacker,” said Garrett about where the staff sees him playing. “I’m fast I can cover. I’m physical, but I think I need to gain some more weight and improve on every aspect of my game because I’m going to the next level and want to get on the field,” Garrett added.
