High school football teams around the country began their playoff runs this weekend with hopes of having the opportunity to play in their state’s championship game. Many Kansas recruits put together impressive performances this weekend that helped their team survive to play another week.
Kansas 6a
Olathe North, led by KU commits Victor Simmons and Adonis Saunders, defeated Shawnee Mission North 48-21. Simmons had 3 TD runs (35, 54, 54). Saunders had 2 TD runs (4, 67).
-Up next the Eagles will play city rival Olathe South in round 2 of the Kansas class 6a playoffs.
Wichita Heights, led by Kansas commit Dreamius Smith defeated Garden City 49-7. Smith had 267 yards on 14 carried including 3 TDs (12, 52, 74). Smith has been put together one of the best seasons in the history of Wichita Heights football.

Kansas 5a
6 time defending state champion Hutchinson, led by Kansas commit Ben Heeney, defeated Salina Central 55-42. Heeney set a Hutchinson rushing record with 340 yards. Heeney also had 5 TDs (13, 39, 54, 74, 80)
-Up next for Hutch is Emporia in round 2 of the Kansas 5a playoffs. Hutch and Gardner Edgerton, led by national superstar Bubba Starling, appear to be heading to the state title game once again.
Bishop Miege and Kansas commit Phil Ford lost to Blue Valley 35-34. Miege is now eliminated from the playoffs, but Phil Ford will be busy working on his game during the off-season.
Missouri 6a
Blue Springs, led by Kansas commit Darrian Miller, defeated Ray-Pec 49-28. Miller had 188 yards and 2 TDs on 25 carries, and played a major role in Blue Springs putting away Ray-Pec in the second half. Miller also became the all-time leading rusher in Missouri Big Class history. Miller now sits at 6,427 career yards, and he’s not done yet. Miller will easily be remembered as one of the most productive players that the Kansas City area has ever produced.
-Up next Blue Springs will look to upset #1 ranked Rockhurst, who beat Blue Springs 7-6 in the first game of the season.
Kansas commit Jake Love and his Tonkawa team defeated Oklahoma Christian 43-17 on Friday night.
Kansas commit Jason Hensley and Alma lost to Greenwood 52-21 on Friday night.
Kansas commit Travis Bodenstein and Shiloh Christian defeated Farmington 41-0 as Shiloh continues their successful season.
Kansas commit Jacorey Shepherd and Mesquite Horn finished up the regular season with a 45-22 win over Mesquite. Shepherd had 9 catches for 148 yards and 2 TDs, and 78 yards rushing. Shepard appears to be the game changer that Jayhawks really need.
-Up next for Horn is Copperas Cove in the 1st round of the Texas state playoffs.
Kansas commit Alex Matlock and Pflugerville finished out the season with a 34-0 loss to Stony Point. Matlock will now start preparing for the next level at Kansas.
Kansas commit Damon Martin and Arlington lost a heart-breaker to Bowie 44-42 on Friday night.
Kansas commit Alex Mueller and Grapevine defeated Richland 41-23. Mueller was 5/5 on PATs, but Grapevine was eliminated from the playoffs.
Kansas commit Bryan Peters and La Mirada defeated Norwalk 40-29 this weekend.
Kansas commit Luke Luhrsen and Wheaton Warrenville South defeated Wheaton North to continue their playoff run in the state of Illinois.
-Up next for Wheaton Warrenville is Glenbard West in the State Quarter Finals.
Kansas commit Chris Robinson and Lake Mary lost a tough one to Lake Brantley 22-20. A bright spot for Robinson was his 43 yard touchdown run during the game.
Kansas commit Michael Cummings did not play due to injury.
Kansas commit Dylan Admire and his Blue Valley West team were eliminated from the Kansas state playoffs last week.
