Ellis vs Wichita SouthThe #8 ranked player in the 2012 class, Perry Ellis, made the short trip to Lawrence again this weekend for KU’s Elite Camp. Ellis, who will be a junior at Wichita Heights High School, made the trip to Lawrence for KU’s Elite Camp for the third time. However, this is the first year that Ellis had the opportunity to finish the Camp. During his first visit for camp Ellis left early on Saturday for a tournament, and last year Ellis had to depart Lawrence early in order to make the drive to Colorado Springs, Colorado for Team USA Trials. The opportunity to stay throughout the entire camp is something that Ellis enjoyed this year.

Ellis, who now stands around 6’8″, usually finds himself working with power forwards and centers during camps. The opportunity to do some work with the guards was something that Ellis rather enjoyed.

“I always like playing against the KU players that is just great competition for me,” said Ellis. ”I am really working on my perimeter game this year and I got a chance to work with the guards this time I normally work with the 4′s-5′s,” he added.

With Ellis only a few hours away from Lawrence, the Kansas staff is very familiar with the two time Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year. And even though Ellis is more than familiar with Kansas, having time to chat with coaches is something that Ellis values each and every time.

“I also was able to spend time with the coaching staff,” said Ellis. And I  had a good long talk with Coach Self on Saturday afternoon before I left camp,” added Ellis.

As for the rest of the summer, the 4.0 student, will attend more camps over the next couple of months, like the LeBron James Skills Academy in Ohio.
