The Jayhawks push the ball in transition, but in the half court they spread the defense with great spacing and multiple ball screens with an emphasis on dribble penetration. Kansas will also look to pound the ball inside with its signature high-low offense. On defense, it will play mostly half-court pressure man-to-man. | With starting point guard Sherron Collins graduating, Bill Self has immediate playing time to sell and Selby, along with early signee shooting guard Royce Woolridge, would form a lethal young backcourt. Selby can be successful because he can excel in transition or in the half court. | Kansas has a reputation of producing pros at all positions. The most recent Self guard in the NBA is Mario Chalmers of the Heat. In years past, guards Kirk Hinrich of the Bulls and Jacque Vaughn of the Spurs have been NBA mainstays. | The distance from Baltimore, Selby’s hometown, could be a factor because family and friends might not see Selby as much as they would like, especially his mother. However, Kansas has had success with players coming from long distances in the past. Plus, Self can sell the fact that he has won a national championship. |
