No timetable for Lamb

Lamb11The #33 ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Doron Lamb, took his final official visit last week when he traveled to Tucson, Arizona with his parents. Besides enjoying the warmth of Arizona, Lamb also had the opportunity to see what the school and basketball program has to offer. According to Lamb’s father, Calvin Lamb, the visit went well and it’s now time to evaluate the options.

“It was nice,” Calvin Lamb said of the visit to Arizona. “It was good. We were there for a couple of days and saw them play Washington State. He (Doron) really enjoyed himself,” added Lamb.

With visits to Oklahoma, Kentucky, UCONN, Kansas and Arizona now behind him, everyone is now left wondering when Doron will make his college decision. According to Calvin, that decision could come tomorrow or two months from now.

“Now it’s just time to evaluate and look at the pros and cons of each school,” Lamb said. “The timetable is when he’s ready. Everything is still wide open right now,” added Lamb.

In the meantime, both Doron and Calvin have been watching a lot of basketball to get a feel of what system Doron might fit the best in.

Although Doron could decide to end his recruitment at any time, Calvin is hoping that they will have a chance to sit down as a family to talk about the schools he’s considering.

“I want us to sit down and talk. We don’t really discuss it while he’s on a visit,” said Lamb. “When he’s home it’s not long before he has to turn around and go back to school. We will probably talk about it during his next break,” added Lamb.

When Doron’s Oak Hill Academy team travels to Springfield, Massachusetts this weekend to play in the Spalding Hoophall Classic (you can see Doron at 4 pm est on ESPN), Calvin will have an opportunity to see his son, but won’t have the time to chat about his recruitment.

“I will see him this Saturday, but we won’t have a chance to talk,” Lamb said. “It will probably be his next break,” added Lamb.

That next break from school for Doron is spring break. Should a decision come after meeting with his family, it will likely come after the annual week long break from school.

Although Doron has taken the five official visits allowed by the NCAA, Doron is still hearing from schools outside of the five he has visited.

“UCLA, West Virgnia and Cincinnati,” said Lamb of some late editions to Doron’s recruitment. “I can’t say because I really don’t know,” added Lamb about the possibility that Doron might unofficially visit one of the three schools.

As for Kansas, it appears the Jayhawks are still very much in the mix for the 6’4″, 180 pound guard from New York.

“They are still in there,” Lamb said of the Jayhawks. “I watched that tough loss to Tennessee the other day. They just didn’t play their best game. They didn’t play their game, and still almost could have won. It doesn’t matter if Tennessee had six guys or 12 guys, KU didn’t play their game,” added Lamb.

One thing that Calvin Lamb feels could seperate his son from other players is his ability to be a hybrid guard. a multi-position player on the perimeter that can play either guard spot.

“One thing nobody talks about is that he can play the point. Everyone always says that he’s a 2 (guard) because of his ability to score,” said Lamb. “He can also play the point and score from there if he needs to,” added Lamb.

Judging by the schools remaining on his list they like Lamb’s ability on the court as well as the Jayhawks.
