Since unofficially visiting the University of Kansas on the weekend of October 16th, the #8 ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Josh Selby, has hoped that a date could be set for a vistit to Kansas so that both Selby and his mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, could officially visit the campus to learn more about the academic side of the University and to see the Jayhawks play in person.
Although it is still unknown if Selby will be able to make the trip, it does appear that Witherspoon could make the trip to Kansas alone to see the Jayhawks in action. If Selby is able to make the trip as well, the visit could still be unofficial as he is still waiting to receive his scores from taking both standardized test in October.
“I would like to get to KU on the 22nd (Dec). “I think they (KU) play Cal that day,” said Witherspoon of setting up a return visit to Kansas. “I want to see that game. I will have to fly in for that one even without Josh. That’s a game we could get out there to see. If he can’t go, I would still come,” added Witherspoon.
Witherspoon hopes to know for sure if Selby will be able to return to Kansas with her once she speaks to his high school coach, Herman “Tree” Harried, about allowing Josh to make the trip with her.
As for the other schools that remain on Selby’s list, it appears that one school will no longer be considered, and that a visit to another is close to being finalized.
“As far as Miami, I don’t think we are going to pursue them anymore,” Witherspoon said. “We are trying to get the flight situation worked out to visit UK on the 2nd (Jan) or 9th,” added Witherspoon.
Witherspoon added that a visit to Syracuse could be arranged at anytime since that is within a reasonable driving distance from their home in Baltimore.
As for Selby, despite his first official game of the season not scheduled until Saturday, he’s already put up some eye popping numbers. During a scrimmage last Saturday morning against Duvall, Selby recorder 13 points and 20 assists, a good start heading into his senior season.
Update* Tuesday afternoon, Witherspoon told TheShiver.com that she will be making the trip to Lawrence on the 22nd, but Selby will be unavailable to make the trip with her.
