If the Kansas basketball program is hoping to receive a very special gift for Valentine’s Day this February, it just might come in the form of a 6′3″, 180 pound point guard from Baltimore. It’s very unlikely that the #8 ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Josh Selby, will arrive with a bag full of candy hearts to hand out, but he will be more than happy to take in all of the love that will be shared when 16,300 fans once again fill Allen Fieldhouse when the Jayhawks take on the Iowa State Cyclones on February 13th.
Selby and his mother, Maeshon Witherspoon, had originally hoped that Josh’s schedule would allow for them to travel to Lawrence for the Missouri game on January 25th. Not only would they have the opportunity to take in a game inside Allen Fieldhouse, but they would also have a chance to see a long time friend in Kimmie English, who currently plays for Missouri and is a Baltimore native. With a busy school and basketball schedule, Selby was forced to look at other dates that might be available for his official visit to the University of Kansas. After sitting down with his mother and coach, it appears that Valentine’s Day weekend is the best, and possibly only, time for Selby to make the return trip to Kansas to see the Jayhawks play.
According to Witherspoon, they have yet to finalize the mid-February visit with the Kansas coaching staff, but hope to have it all wrapped up soon.
Selby will be using two of his five official visits over the next two weeks when he travels to Kentucky on January 2nd and to Arizona on January 9th. With the official visit to Kansas almost finalized, Selby will be down to two official visits left to take. A return trip to Indiana is still a possibility or he could decide to visit elsewhere. Another school he could possibly visit is Connecticut, which was once thought to be eliminated from consideration for Selby. However, the Huskies weren’t ready to give up on the game changing point guard and have put themselves back into the mix after having some communication with Selby and Witherspoon.
