During his press conference Monday morning new Kansas coach, Turner Gill, made it clear to everyone that recruiting was a priority for him and his coaching staff. It appears that Coach Gill wasted little time hitting the recruiting trail on Monday by calling some of the players currently committed to the Jayhawks.
One recruit who hasn’t heard from Coach Gill yet is former Kansas commit, Jacoby Walker. With the investigation, and later resignation, of former coach Mark Mangino, Walker was unsure about his future plans. In a matter of a just a few weeks Walker went from preparing to arrive in Lawrence in January to thinking he might have to find somewhere else to play college football. With all that is unknown around the Kansas football program, Walker headed to Utah for a visit. Shortly after his trip out west and Mark Mangino’s resignation, Walker decided to commit to the Utes. A second trip to Arkansas was planned for Walker this past weekend, but that visit never took place according to Walker.
“I’ve been doing good, just been working” said Walker. “I just didn’t want to talk about the situation much,” added Walker about the Kansas football situation before the hiring of Gill.
Now that Gill is leading the program at Kansas, it does appear that despite his recent commitment to Utah that Walker would listen to Gill and his coaching staff should they be interested in talking.
“Yes I would,” said Walker about talking to Coach Gill. “It couldn’t hurt,” added Gill.
With Walker graduating from high school in December and enrolling in college in January, the Kansas coaching change left Walker wondering what he would do.
“The coaching change and all that kind of screwed with my time frame and December graduation,” said Walker.
For now, according to Walker, he is committed to Utah, but will listen when the Jayhawks want to talk.
