This day has been a long time coming for the #94 ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Royce Woolridge. Woolridge has been waiting for this day since May, 2008 when he decided to end his recruitment by committing to the Jayhawks at the end of his sophomore year. At noon cst today, Woolridge will put pen to paper and officially join the Kansas family.
“It’s been a long wait,” said Woolridge about the wait to sign his Letter of Intent.
Woolridge will bring his ability to score to Lawrence early next summer. Despite only standing 6’2″ and weighing in at 180 pounds, Woolridge has a quick first step to get by his defender and then finish at the rim with contact, he also has a good pull-up jumpshot. He continues to work on his shot from the three point range and those shots are becoming more consistent. Right now Woolridge is just as likely to hit 10 three-pointers in a row as he is to miss 10 in a row. After meeting with Kansas Head Coach, Bill Self, during his recent visit to Kansas, Woolridge hopes to be more of a pure shooter by time he arrives in Lawrence.
With family all around the state of Kansas, Woolridge is very familiar with Kansas and the Kansas basketball program. One reason that Woolridge had little trouble committing to the Jayhawks shortly after being offered a scholarship in 2008. Joining the Jayhawk family is something that Woolridge has thought about for the past few years and now that dream becomes a reality with the stroke of his pen later today.
“It feels amazing,” said Woolridge of joining the Kansas family. “I’m so glad to be apart of the Jayhawk family.”.
With over 2,000 people that filled the Haskell College gym in May to see Woolridge play, it appears that Jayhawk Nation is happy to have Woolridge join the family.
