Lamb1After checking in with the #33 ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Doron Lamb, at Oak Hill Academy last week, Kansas Head Coach, Bill Self, had the opportunity to travel to Brooklyn, New York to visit with Lamb’s parents. TheShiver.com spoke with Lamb’s father, Calvin Lamb, just minutes after the visit with Self.

“It went well,” Calvin Lamb said of the visit. “I didn’t know how much they were winning as far as victories year after year,” added Lamb about the Kansas program.

Although no other member of the Kansas staff attended the meeting, Coach Self had plenty to talk about for the two hours that he was in the Lamb home.

“He was by himself,” said Lamb of Self. “He was here for about two hours. He is cool, and I think he is a nice person. He’s very honest, and doesn’t beat around the bush about how he feels and how he does things. I could see my son playing for him,” added Lamb.

Although Calvin Lamb could see his son playing for Bill Self, the decision is ultimately Doron’s, and Calvin just wants to make sure that his son is happy wherever he goes.

“As long as my son is happy,” Lamb said of Doron’s decision. “We just want the best for him,” added Lamb.

According to Lamb, Self spent a lot of time not only talking about the Kansas basketball program, but he also discussed the academic life at Kansas.

“We talked about academics and how the advisers are always there to help. That is very important to us,” Lamb said of academics. “He talked about how the school is really a close knit family, and that the basketball program is very family oriented,” added Lamb.

As TheShiver.com reported on September 4th, the rumors of Doron having an official visit scheduled for the annual Kansas basketball celebration, Late Night in the Phog, turned out to be untrue. In fact, at that time, Calvin Lamb said they hadn’t spoken with a member of the Kansas staff . Now that both Doron and his parents have met with the Kansas staff, it appears that a visit is likely to happen, it’s just of matter of when it will happen.

“We plan on setting a date for a visit,” Lamb said. “We didn’t set one yet, but we will get  schedules together and figure it out. It (Late Night in the Phog) was mentioned as a possibility, but we’ll have to see,” added Lamb.

As for Doron’s thoughts on his visit with the Kansas staff last Thursday, Calvin Lamb said Doron kept it simple.

“He said it was good. He’s just so laid back,” Calvin Lamb said of his son, Doron.
