Jones-300x200Kansas coaches, Bill Self and Kurtis Townsend, made their way to Portland, Oregon on Sunday afternoon to meet with the 15th ranked player in the ESPNU 100, Terrence Jones. Jones, who attends the same high school as former Kansas stars Aaron Miles and Michael Lee, spoke with TheShiver.com about the visit and his recruitment process.

“It went good,” Jones said of his in home visit with Kansas. “He pretty much told me the situation he has there, how they will be good this year, and why he thinks I fit the program,” Jones added about what Self went over during the visit.

Like most in-home visits, the Kansas coaches had a chance to show Jones DVD’s about the University of Kansas and the Kansas basketball program. Whatever the staff has on those DVD’s, it certainly impressed Jones, who considers them the best of the DVD’s that he’s watched during all of his in-home visits.

“They were probably the best of the home visits,” Jones said of the DVD’s the Kansas coaches played for him. “Had stuff about the history of the program. I didn’t know that Naismith was a professor there,” Jones added.

As for coach Self, Jones feels that Self is a coach he would be able to trust, which is something he’s looking for.

“He’s a person I think I could trust. He seemed honest,” said Jones. “I picture myself playing  for a coach I trust, and he’s a coach I think I can trust,” added Jones.

Jones currently has seven schools that make up his list. Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona, Washington, Oklahoma, Oregon and UCLA. The original thought was that Jones would cut his list to five in the near future. That’s something that Jones is not sure that he’ll actually do.

“I have no idea on cutting my list to five,” said Jones. “I might go seven to three, or straight from seven to one. It depends on what me, and everyone in my circle, thinks is is best,” added Jones.

Jones is hoping to announce his official visits in the near future.

“We’ve been talking about it.,” Jones said of settting up his official visits. “Should hopefully be done by Friday. We have a meeting this week about it,” Jones added.

Although it appears that Jones will make all five of his visits, Jones seems sure about when he wants to make his decision.

“This fall,” said Jones about when he wants to make his college decision.

As for the Jayhawks, Jones did spend a lot of time watching the basketball team when former Jayhawks Aaron Miles and Michael Lee wore the crimson and blue.

“I watched a lot when Aaron (Miles) and Mike (Lee) were there,” said Jones. “Aaron’s little brother was at my school last year and played on my basketball team. I saw Aaron at a couple of games last season and talked to him,” added Jones.

Jones had a fantastic summer this year. His playing was noticed throughout the summer, he showed of his versatility by scoring from anywhere on the court. Jones has the ability to pull up from three or get to the rim off the dribble. Jones has incredible length (84 inch wingspan) which allows him to disrupt passing lanes on defense and helps him rebound the basketball, which he does exceptionally well.
