The Kansas football program added another piece to their 2010 recruiting class today when 6’2″ 255 pound offensive guard Zach Bolton ended his recruitment by committing to the Mark Mangino and the Kansas Jayhawks. The Klein Forest lineman spent some time with TheShiver.com on Monday talking about his decision.

Bolton has multiple offers to stay in the state of Texas for college, but staying in state was exactly what Bolton didn’t want to do.

“I wanted to get out of the state to play, so I chose Kansas,” Bolton said of his decision.

Outside of leaving the state of Texas, Bolton also pointed to the tight bond he has formed with the Kansas coaching staff and some of the current players already on the roster.

“I have a good relationship with the coaching staff,” said Bolton. “I also have a tight bond with some of the players that are already up there (KU),” Bolton added.

As for one thing that really stood out to Bolton when it came to choosing Kansas, Bolton struggled to come up with just one thing.

“I just like everything about it,” Bolton said of KU. “It was just time to end my recruitment,” Bolton added.

There was no shortage of excitement from the Kansas coaching staff when Bolton made the call to tell them the news.

“They were excited,” said Bolton. “They said they can’t wait until I get there,” Bolton added.

Bolton credits his relationship with Coach Reagan for being one reason why he favored the Jayhawks. Something that developed during his trip to Lawrence over his spring break a few months ago. Bolton also had the chance to check out the new Kansas football facilities while he was in Lawrence. Something that still stands out in his mind.

“They were the biggest I’ve ever seen,” Bolton said of the Kansas football facilities.

Bolton plans on making it up to Lawrence for a game this season to once again see the Kansas program. This time, it will be as a committed player so Bolton is planning on picking up a lot of KU gear to wear around his native Houston. Bolton will also get a chance to see the Kansas offense up close on that day. An offense that Bolton sees as a very balanced attack.

“It’s very high powered,” Bolton said of the Kansas offense. “It’s high powered, but they mix it up with the run. It’s very balanced to me,” added Bolton.

Houston area Jayhawk fans will have the opportunity to check out two future Jayhawks when they go head to head this season. Bolton’s Klein Forest team will take on Westfield High School, which is led by Kansas quarterback commit Jacoby Walker.
