With the possible departure of pre season All American and Kansas big man Cole Aldrich, it’s obvious to see why the Jayhawks are showing a great deal of interest in the #1 center in the 2011 class. Although the Jayhawks will likely still have talented depth in the post in the 2010-11′ season, Bill Self and staff have never steered away from trying to bring in the best talent possible to keep the Kansas program at the highest level possible. For most Kansas fans, that level is at the very top year in and year out. All reasons why recruiting the best players at any position behooves the Kansas program.
Names like Amare Stoudemire and Al Jefferson and words like relentless, tough, and warrior come up when watching the ESPNU Super 60 #6 overall player Johnny O’Bryant. At 6′8″ 218 pounds, O’Bryant has firmly solidified his position as on of the best big men in the country with his high energy play throughout every game that he plays. O’Bryant is a rebound warrior on either end of the floor, and utilizes his tremendous athleticism around the rim to finish off plays.
O’Bryant effort and warrior like attitude have certain been noticed by college coaches around the country. Schools like Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Mississippi State, Arkansas and Florida State.
As far as Kansas is concerned, according to O’Bryant, the Jayhawks extended a scholarship offer recently.
“Yep,” O’Bryant said of a Kansas offer via text. “About a month ago,” added O’Bryant.
As for thoughts about the Jayhawks, O’Bryant currently has the Jayhawks doing well in his recruitment.
“They’re (KU) coming along fine,” O’Bryant said. “I have talked to Coach Manning. Kansas is a winning schools and I want to win, so yeah, Kansas is a high consideration,” added O’Bryant.
With some time remaining before he cuts down the list of schools currently recruiting him, O’Bryant says he hasn’t actually made a list of his top schools.
“I haven’t made a list of top schools,” O’Bryant said.
Bryant currently hasn’t made plans to unofficially visit any of the schools on his list this fall.
