It’s not easy being a high school football player in central Texas. In Texas, football isn’t just a seasonal sport like it is in other state. In Texas, the only way to stand out to coaches, fans, and recruiters is to continue to get better throughout the year. That means playing through the high school season, participating in off-season workouts, playing 7 on 7, and then start preparing for the next season throughout the hot summer months. That’s exactly what Liberty Hill High School (TX) linebacker Brad Esch has been doing in 100 + degree temperatures.
“Summer is going good. Just working out and doing our summer pack program,” Esch said. “A lot of speed training and lifting. It was 104 degrees the other day,” Esch added.
As for the upcoming football season at Liberty Hill High School, Esch is preparing to step into a leadership position.
“We had a lot of seniors graduate,” Esch said. “We will be a very young team. “Oh yeah.” Esch said of being a leader. “Got to do it and I like it,” Esch added.
For this upcoming season, Esch is not only preparing to be a leader on defense from his linebacker position, but he is also going back to playing a position he spent some time at as a sophomore.
“Sight,” Esch said of what he does best on the field. “I can see where the ball is going and what gaps need to be filled. I’ve played a little running back too, but only played lineback last season. I am going to move back to playing a little running back this season,” Esch added.
As far as his recruitment is concerned, Esch is just trying to show schools that he would be a valuable asset to their program.
“I’m just trying to get my name out and get the opportunity to see what I can do,” said Esch.
Esch is currently communicating with a host of schools who are inquiring about the 5′11″ 210 pound linebacker. Esch currently list Baylor, Kansas, Nebraska, and TCU as schools that have reached out to him.
Esch is originally from Lincoln, Nebraska, but the Cornhuskers aren’t the only Big 12 north team he is interested in.
“I really like the Jayhawks,” Esch said. “I would love to play for them. I’ve always watched them since I was little, and went to a game when I was little when they played Nebraska,” added Esch.
Esch is working hard on improving his speed in hopes of hearing even more from programs like Kansas. With his new position as the leader this season, Esch will have plenty of opportunities to impress on the field.
