The Kansas City Prep National Invitational wasn’t easy for any of the terrific AAU organizations that participated in the multiple divisions of the tournament. The tournament is the last AAU tournament of the summer circuit, and most AAU programs have been through a tough grueling season leading up to the KC Prep tournament. Both players and coaches rack up miles and games throughout the summer, so it’s no surprise that players can look and play tired during the last tournament of the season. It’s the ability to fight through exhaustion that separates teams and players in the last tournament of the summer. One team that did just that is Kansas City’s own, Kansas City Pump ‘N’ Run, who overcame much more than being tired to pull off the win against MBA Elite (Mississippi), and leave Okun Fieldhouse in Shawnee as the tournament champions in the 17 and under Platinum division. All four of the 2009 Kansas football team’s non-conference games will be televised this season, which should come as a relief for Jayhawk fans who are unable to attend the non-televised games.The Jayhawks will open the season hosting Northern Colorado on Sept. 5 in a game which will be televised on Fox College Sports at 6 p.m. Central.

KU’s other three non-conference television selections have previously been announced.

CBS College Sports will televise the Jayhawks’ game at UTEP on Sept. 12 at 6:30 p.m., while home games against Duke on Sept. 19 and vs. Southern Mississippi on Sept. 26 will be shown on VERSUS and FSN respectively. Both games kickoff at 11 a.m.

Big 12 Conference television selections will be announced 12 days prior to kickoff with occasional six-day announcements. The Jayhawks open Big 12 play hosting Iowa State on Oct. 10.

Day 2 of the KC Prep National Invitational saw no shortage of big time coaches and big time players during the full day of play. Bill Self, Billy Donovan, Bruce Weber, Jeff Capel, and many more were on hand to watch some of the best talent in the country. Read the rest of this entry »

TheShiver.com had the opportunity to catch up with Bishop Miege (KS) football star Justin McCay as he prepared to hit the hardwood with his KC Pump N Run team in Shawnee, Kansas. McCay talked about his trip to Florida last week, his recruitment, and his upcoming season. Oh, and he made sure that revenge was coming on the basketball court for Highland Park High School in Topeka.

Trevor Releford has been impressing college coaches from all over the country with his play this summer. Releford continued his terrific play at the KC Prep National Invitational in Shawnee, Kansas Tuesday night, despite his KC Pump N Run team losing in their first game of pool play. Releford spoke with TheShiver.com shortly before his game about his summer and where his recruitment stands right now.
