kyuann-thompson1Ever since having the unfortunate luck of tearing his ACL in the middle of the season, Southmoore (OK) running back Kyaunn Thompson has been working hard to be 100% by this upcoming season, his senior season.

“My knee is getting better,” Thompson said. “Rehab is going good. I am close to 100% and I am running and have been cutting already. Mainly just working on strength and getting my leg strong again,” Thompson added.

Even though Thompson missed games due to the injury last season, it would seem that he had done more than enough up to the injury to catch the attention of multiple college programs, including the Kansas Jayhawks.

Kansas is one of many that make up Thompson’s list that includes Colorado State, Baylor, Utah, Northeastern, Nebraska, Arizona, Kansas State, Missouri State, Rice, Missouri, Air Force, Tulsa, and has recently received letters from USC.

When it comes to Kansas, location could be one thing that helps the Jayhawks out with Thompson.

“I like KU,” Thompson said. “It’s close to home. I’m not sure that I want to go too far from home,” added Thompson on staying near home.

Kansas co-defensive coordinator Clint Bowen has been the recruiter for Thompson, and according to Thompson, coach Bowen has certainly made a good impression.

“I’m actually supposed to call him today,” said Thompson. “I am going to ask him some more about the school (KU) when I talk to him. He seems like a good coach,” Thompson added.

After seeing some tape on Thompson, it appears the Jayhawks are growing more and more interested in the 6’0″ 185 pound running back.

“He (Bowen) said he likes what he sees on my highlight reel. He said he likes how I read defenses as a back,” said Thompson.

Although Thompson plays on both sides of the ball as a running back and cornerback, only Oklahoma State is currently recruiting Thompson as a cornerback. Thompson is athletic enough to play on either side of the ball, but according to Thompson, running back is where he excels.

“I am more of a juking back, but I can do it all out there,” Thompson said about what he does best on the field. “Blocking a bit better,” added Thompson about what he continues to work on.

Although Thompson hasn’t been to Lawrence to see the University of Kansas campus, it is something that he hopes to do at some point this summer. With his father, Thompson has learned about the Kansas program and about the head man himself, coach Mangino, who Thompson knew was the former offensive coordinator at Oklahoma.

Despite the injury Thompson suffered last season, Thompson looks to show everyone that he is every bit the player he was before getting hurt. If that’s the case, or he proves to be even better than before, Thompson will have a lot of great schools to choose from.
