Jones-300x200Versatile SF Terrence Jones is at home for a week after participating in the Vince Carter Nike Skills Academy in Orlando, Florida. Next week it’s back at it again for Jones, who will be heading to Ohio for the LeBron Nike Skills Academy in Akron. Just another busy week of travel and basketball for Jones, who is trying to learn and get better every day.

“Vince Carter went good,” Jones said. “I learned a lot from Vince, like working on pick and roll and guarding the wing,” added Jones.

There is no doubt that Jones impressed at the camp. Known for his versatility, Jones has a number of ways to get the ball in the hoop. The #3 SF in the country can score from three point range, post his man up, or get to the rim off the dribble. Jones credits a lot of his versatility to his late growth spurt.

“I was small and played point guard in middle school,” Jones said. “In 9th grade, I was like 6’2″ and played varsity point guard,” added Jones.

Coach Self would love to hear Jones talk about rebounding, which is something that Jones does very well.

“Rebounding controls possession and the team that has the most possessions is going to win most of the time,” Jones said about his rebounding ability.

Now a long 6’8″, Jones still possess a lot of those point guard skills, and is looking to lead his Jefferson High School team to another state title.

If Jefferson High School sounds familiar, it should. Jefferson is where former Jayhawks Aaron Miles and Michael Lee went to high school.

“Kansas is a good program,” Jones said. “I always watched them (KU) with Aaron (Miles) and Mike Lee,” Jones added.

As for the Jayhawks, all that time watching them when Aaron and Mike played might be paying off now for the Jayhawks.

“I really like the system and they get a lot of guys to the league,” Jones said. They’re always good and have a history of winning championships,” added Jones.

Kansas Assistant coach Kurtis Townsend has been leading the way with recruiting Jones, but Kansas head man Bill Self has let his interest known as well.

“Coach seems like a great guy,” Jones said. “He called the first day he could,” Jones said laughing. ”He said I could be the third guy from my high school to be at Kansas,” added Jones.

Jones doesn’t have a short list of schools that are currently recruiting him. Along with the Jayhawks, Jones is hearing from Oklahoma, Arizona, Indiana, Oregon State, Oregon, Washington, Washington State, Marquette, Georgetown, and Florida.

Jones won’t be doing too much with his list over the next few weeks, but is hoping that some things clear up by the end of the summer. It’s then when Jones will determine where he makes his visits as well.
