Marcus Lucas didn’t have far to travel for the Football University camp held at William Jewell College in Liberty. Maybe it was being able to sleep in his own bed, or eat his own food, but whatever it was, Lucas certainly showed why he is one of the top wide receivers in the 2010 class.
Lucas showed a very quick burst off the line of scrimmage, which helped him get immediate separation on defensive backs during 1 on 1, 2 on 3, and 7 on 7 drills. Lucas had little trouble breaking in and out of cuts while running routes. His hips are very flexible, which allowed him to shift his weight one direction and then explode the other direction. Despite the near 100 degree weather for much of the weekend, Lucas never appeared worn out. In fact, he appeared to get better throughout the day, especially once there was a defender in front of him.
Lucas ended the camp winning the “Maxwell Award” which is given to the camps most outstanding player which included showing a positive attitude, great leadership abilities, and of course, his play on the field. Lucas often encouraged his fellow receivers and Lucas himself took the coaching he received from his position coach, former NFL receiver Andre Rison, and put to use on the field right away.
TheShiver.com was able to catch up with Marcus to discuss the camp and his recruitment.
