Allen, Texas native Luke Burleson added to his other three offers during the weekend when the Kansas Jayhawks extended an offer to the 6′6″ 275 pound tackle. Burleson first impressed us during the Nike Training Camp in Ft. Worth a few months ago. He showed good feet, great size, good strength, and a great work ethic. It appears that all of his hard work is certainly paying off.
Kansas Assistant Je’Ney Jackson has spent some time on the Allen High School tackle, and he was the coach that made the call this weekend.
“Coach Jackson called and told me he had some good news,” Burleson said. “He then told me they (Kansas) were offering me,” Burleson added.
The Jayhawks became the third school to offer behind Wake Forest, and North Texas. Although Burleson still has some visits he wants to make, Kansas is certainly a place he likes.
“I am going to visit Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas Tech,” Burleson said about future visits. “Kansas is a place I could certainly see myself at,” added Burleson.
Burleson has previously been to Lawrence when he made it up for Junior day earlier this year.
“It was a great atmosphere up there. We went to a basketball game and you could see there was a tradition there,” said Burleson. “I did see the facilities and they looked outstanding,” added Burleson.
Burleson isn’t making things complicated when it comes to his decision. In reality, he is just looking for a comfortable environment.
“The people and the coaches,” Burleson said about what things are important when deciding. “Academics and location too. KU is fine in location because it’s not really that far,” added Burleson.
When it comes to his game, Burleson has worked very hard to improve his overall game throughout the off-season.
“I have really improved my speed and strength. I am a lot quicker than my game film shows from last season,” Burleson said. “I am really a hard worker and a team player. I think for the team first before thinking of myself,” added Burleson.
When it comes to things Burleson will continue to work on, speed once again is a top priority even though he has already inproved in that area.
“I will still work on speed and my hands,” Burelson said.
Burleson is a tackle at the next level, and having speed and great hands are things that will certainly help him see the field sooner than later once he arrives on a college campus.
Coach Mangino has shown time and time again that players with a great work ethic and great attitude have a place on his team. Burleson fits that description, which makes it no surprise that the Jayhawks extended an offer to the rising tackle from Texas.
