The continued success of Kansas football under Coach Mangino has made Lawrence a place that top tier football players want to visit and, ultimately, play.

On of those players is Southmoore High School (OK) star Julian Wilson. At 6’2″ 180 pounds, this tall lanky athlete has the entire Big 12 hoping he picks their program so they have to decide which side of the ball he will play. The football ball coaches might not be the only ones excited to land Wilson. Big 12 track coaches, like coach Redwine at Kansas, could have the chance to see Wilson in action too.

“If my workload and football allows me to, yes I would like to run track too,” Wilson said.

Wilson’s natural gifts of size and speed, combined with his hard work, has made him a viable threat on both sides of the field as a defensive back or a wide receiver. Most coaches are now recruiting him as an athlete, Wilson has no preference on which side he would like to play.

“I will play either one,” Wilson said of playing wide receiver or defensive back. “Wherever I can get on the field quicker,” Wilson added.

With schools like Missouri, Arizona, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Baylor, SMU, Colorado State, Ole Miss and Stanford already on Wilson’s list, Kansas has quickly found themselves high on that list, thanks to one of the coaches.

“Coach Miller (co-defensive coordinator) has put them (KU) high up on my list,” Wilson said of the Jayhawks.

So much so that Wilson plans on getting to Lawrence for a visit this summer to see the Kanas program up close. Wilson is already impressed because of what he knows about the Jayhawks.

“The facilities, great coaching and they are a dominate force in the Big 12. Not  to mention that their track team isn’t bad either,” Wilson said.

Wilson could have a decision on where he will play at the next level in the, not so distant, future.

“I want to narrow my list by the end of the summer,” Wilson said. “I see myself making a decision before my senior season,” Wilson added.

With his ability on the field and on the track, Wilson will surely make a couple of coaching staffs very excited once he  makes his decision.
