Since former Memphis coach John Calipari decided to leave for Lexington, Kentucky, speculation and rumors have run wild about some of the players and recruits that had either signed or committed to Memphis for the 2009-2010 season. That has been exactly the case with CJ Henry and his brother Xavier Henry, who is the #3 ranked recruit in the ESPN 150. With CJ unable to make it back home to Oklahoma City shortly after Xavier finished his week in Miami for the McDonalds All American game, and Xavier playing in the Nike Hoop Summit in Oregon, the Henry family hasn’t had much of an opportunity to all sit together to discuss their futures. Now Xavier will be headed off to New York City to play in the Jordan Brand Classic this Saturday and CJ still in Memphis wrapping up his spring semester, it appears it will be another week before the family will have an opportunity to meet and discuss what is the best option for them.
Xavier Henry told TheShiver.com during the McDonalds All American week that he hoped to plan trips to both Kansas and Kentucky to get a better feel of which school and program would be best for him. There has been much speculation as to when or if these trips will happen. One such rumor was that Xavier would visit Kentucky as soon as this week, which doesn’t seem to be the case according to Henry himself.
“That’s impossible,” Henry said via text message about being in Lexington this week. “I’ll be in New York,” Henry added.
However, after the Jordan Brand Classic on Saturday it is entirely possible that Xavier and family will then plan trips to Lexington and revisit the place where both of Xavier’s parents played their college basketball, Lawrence, Kansas. There has been some confusion as to when and if those visits will happen at all. Xavier has mentioned that those plans are still in the works while his father Carl Henry has said that visits might not be necessary. The confusion is really because the family simply hasn’t had the opportunity to discuss exactly what their plans are or will be. As of right now, according to Henry, there won’t be anything decided for sure until after this weekends game in New York City.
“Right, we haven’t decided anything,” Henry said when asked if anything will be decided before the family meets next week.
There is also still a possibility that both Henry brothers still end up at Memphis. With the Tigers hiring former Tigers assistant Josh Pastner, and the possibility that CJ might not be cleared to play this coming season by the NCAA, the Henry family might decide that playing for the Tigers is still the best option for them.
With the speculation that Sherron Collins and Cole Aldrich could announce their decisions to return for the 2009-10 season, along with the additions of Elijah Johnson and Thomas Robinson, and the possibility of adding the combination of Xavier Henry and CJ Henry, or even both Henry brothers and fellow McDonalds All American Lance Stephenson, the excitement throughout Jayhawk Nation is at an all time high.
Heck, we haven’t even started talking about what is looks to be another terrific football season in Lawrence.
