Ricki Herod Commits to Kansas

ricki-herod5We first told you about Ricki Herod two weeks ago after he dominated the competition at Nike Elite camp at TCU, winning the MVP award for the wide receivers group.

Herod couldn’t be stopped during one on one drills as he exploded off the line of scrimmage and past his defender with ease. Herod lost little speed in and out of cuts and displayed great hands throughout the day. To many onlookers he was arguably the best player in the entire camp, not just in the wide receivers group.

After receiving an offer from Kansas earlier this week Herod met with his family to talk it over, and then decided to go ahead and commit this evening after speaking with the Jayhawks head man, Coach Mangino.

“I am officially a Jayhawk,” Herod stated to start the conversation.

From the sound of it, Coach Mangino couldn’t have been happier with the decision.

“He was very happy,” Herod said of Mangino. “He said he felt like doing back flips,” Herod added.

Location played a little bit of a role in the decision as well. Ricki’s parents were happy that Lawrence isn’t far from Mesquite and his mom in particular was excited because she could still see her son play as often as possible.

His dad was excited for other reasons, not just for football.

“My dad’s excited because I will be his first child to go to college,” Herod said about his father. “Not only do I get to go to college, but I get to play division 1 football too,” Herod added.

It is certainly a great time for Ricki and his family. Not only is he going to college, but Ricki has great academic goals as well. He isn’t sure what major he will declare for, but he thinks it will be in Finance, Business, or Engineering.

Herod will be a great fit in the Kansas offense. He gets off the line with ease and can explode in and out of cuts. He has great hands, and loves to run after the catch. In the Kansas offense, Herod will have plenty of opportunities to do just that.

Herod plans to make it to Lawrence for camp this summer, and he also plans on returning a few more times throughout the summer so that he gets more familiar with the place that he will call home.
