Kansas State football is looking to the past to help them in the future by bringing back former head coach and Manhattan legend Bill Snyder. Snyder built the program up once before, but surprisingly enough, it might have actually been easier to do during his first go around. Read the rest of this entry »

When some of that talent is, or could be potential Kansas basketball players, KU fans flock to the event to see the highly touted recruits to dream about what could be if the players were to be future Jayhawks.

Plenty of current and future stars have played in the tournament. Cole Aldrich, Travis Releford, Xavier Henry, Daniel Orton, Elijah Johnson, Devon Jefferson, and Derrick Favors have all played in the event.

This year, Kansas fans will have the opportunity to once again see some of the best talent around. Harrison Barnes (All-Iowa Attack), Trevor Releford (KC Pump N Run), Joe Jackson (Compton Magic), Bradley Beal (St. Louis Easgle 16’s) and Kansas commit Royce Woolridge (Arizona Magic) will all be in attendance during the three day tournament.

Kansas fans will get the chance to see the future Jayhawk Woolridge face off against potential future Jayhawk Harrison Barnes at 7:10 p.m. on Friday at Haskell. Barnes could be the #1 ranked player in the entire 2010 class while Kansas bound Woolridge is looking to quickly climb the rankings this summer after a terrific junior season at Sunny Slope High School (AZ).

Fans can catch action all weekend in any of the tournament locations. Haskell Coffin Complex, Ambler Center (KU), Robinson Gym (KU), Lawrence and Free State High Schools, and South, West, and Central Junior High Schools.

A Family Affair

Posted by Matt Scott On April - 27 - 2009

babara-henryWith last weeks press conference at Putnam City High School (OK), Xavier Henry told the college basketball world that he and his brother C.J. were headed to Lawrence to attend the University of Kansas. This announcement put a smile on the faces of thousands of Kansas fans, and surely put a smile on the faces of the Kansas basketball coaching staff as well. With the addition of the Henry brothers to go along with Cole Aldrich and Sherron Collins, Kansas will be heavily favored to win the National Championship next season.

The Henry brothers decision to attend Kansas isn’t the first time someone in their family walked the hills of the main campus. Both their mother Barbara, and their father Carl, played basketball at Kansas now making the Henry’s one of the first families of Kansas basketball.

During last Thursday’s press conference, you could see the joy in a mothers face as Barbara Henry watched her son announce that he and his brother will play inside the famous Allen Fieldhouse at the University of Kansas.

xavier-henry-with-media-and-then-theshivercom-02m-25s2It was a great scene at Putnam City High School (OK) as Xavier Henry ended weeks of speculation and announced he is Kansas bounds. The 6′6″ 225 pound swing guard said his heart was always with Kansas, but the love of his family and the opportunity to play with his brother led him to choose Memphis when he announced earlier this year. That all changed when former Memphis coach John Calipari chose to head to Lexington, Kentucky to become the Wildcats head man leaving the door open for Xavier to be what he always wanted to be, a Jayhawks.

Xavier Henry ends his personal recruiting saga, chooses Kansas Jayhawk.

“With my parents going there, when I grew up, I wanted to go to Kansas.”
-Xavier Henry

Xavier strongly hints CJ will attend as well.

“The whole family is excited, he (Xavier) always loved Kansas”
-Xavier Henry’s mom.

”It was real stressful, all of it happened while I wasn’t at home. Once we got home, it all evened out”
-Xavier Henry on the Coach Cal departing.

“Are you sure, are you positive? He wanted to make sure I was serious.”
-X on Self’s reaction to decision

“I’m glad its over with”
-X on the end of the recruiting saga.

“With the new coaches, you aren’t being recruited by that coach, I was just waiting to see what my brother would do.”
-X on Memphis.

“Coach Cal, he understood…”
-X

“”DeMarcus, he understood. He wished me luck. He said a couple of things I can’t repeat.” (Laughter)
-X on DeMarcus Cousins (Kentucky)
