It hasn’t been long since Westfield High School (TX) quarterback Jacoby Walker received his scholarship offer from the University of Kansas, but after speaking the Walker it appears that the Jayhawks have become an early favorite for Walker.
With a 5-4 record for the season Westfield didn’t have the season that Jacoby Walker had hoped for, but despite missing two weeks due to a hurricane, Walker did put up some impressive stats.
“I threw for about 2,100 yards; 2,087 is the exact number,” Walker said. “I threw for 20 touchdowns and 8 interceptions and we missed two games due to a hurricane down here,” Walker added.
As far as his recruitment is concerned, Walker has received three offers and is looking for two more in the very near future.
“Right now I have offers from Oklahoma State, Nebraska and Kansas. I think I will get offers from Northwestern and Missouri soon as well,” Walker added.
As far as the Jayhawks are concerned, Walker has certainly taken notice.
“Coach (John) Reagan has been recruiting me. I always try to watch Kansas when they are on TV down here,” Walker said. ” I really like their system.”
With the rise of the Kansas football program since Mark Mangino took over in Lawrence, players like Walker are starting to recognize the success and gain interest in being a part of it.
“They (Kansas) were like a middle of the road program for awhile, but the last two years they stepped it up and are bringing in the right people,” Walker said.
The talent level of the players coming to Kansas has improved, to the point that potential players like Walker look at current Jayhawks as players they would like to play on the field with.
“I like Dezmon Briscoe. That dude is ridiculous,” commented Walker. “I would love to play with him. They also have a (Jonathan) Wilson who played down here in my district,” Walker added.
Walker has a few trips planned in the coming months. He plans to attend the Nike combine and camp in early April and the Elite 11 camp at Rice University in May. Walker also has one other trip in his plans.
“I am trying to get to Kansas for the spring game in April, but I will know for sure in late March,” Walker said.
As far as planning out when official visits will be made, Walker hasn’t gotten that far yet. He has, however, determined an early leader.
“I would say Kansas is my early leader,” Walker said.
TheShiver.com will also be at the Nike combine and camp in early April and will have the chance to see Walker in action at the events. By then, Walker will know for sure whether he will be attending the Kansas spring game or not, and may have plans for other visits he could make.
