When it comes to KU’s 2008 recruiting class there is not a more accomplished player than Prinz Kande. At 5-11 and 185 lbs., the Trinity H.S., Texas safety is rated #77 at his position by ESPN and has an offer from Wisconsin, along with interest from Nebraska and New Mexico.
Strengths: experienced and confident. Kande plays for one of the best, if not the best, programs in the state of Texas. Trinity won the 2007 Texas 5A State Championship and Kande is a four year starter at safety for that program. He is extremely physical and makes his presence known at the point of attack. He’s very strong in run support and has excellent ball skills that will translate to the next level.
Weaknesses: overall speed. Kande is not a burner but is much faster than he’s given credit for. He’s very instinctive and takes great angles to the ball which makes up for his lack of blazing speed.
’09 Outlook: It will be tough to keep Kande off of the field, but there will be a high level of competition when he arrives in Lawrence. All Big 12 safety Darrell Stuckey along with Phillip Strozier will certainly have a leg up at the starting positions. Former cornerback Chris Harris and redshirt Freshman Lubbock Smith, who has earned high praises in practice, also look to be in the mix. KU will certainly find a way to take advantage of Kande’s playmaking ability. He is currently the gem of this year’s recruiting class and should make an instant impact the moment he steps on the field.
