Today was filled with excitement and a sense of accomplishment for the big man from D.C. Today was the day that Thomas Robinson put ink to pen and officially made himself a member of Jayhawk Nation. Robinson signed his Letter of Intent to attend the University of Kansas and play a little basketball for Coach Bill Self.
“Today put me one step closer to being a Jayhawk,” Robinson said about signing his LOI. “It was a relief to get it done.”
Robinson, who dropped a cool 19 points, 15 rebounds, and 5 blocks in a blowout win tonight, has plans to work hard throughout the year to ensure he is ready from day one on campus.
“I want to be a impact player, a good freshman, and I don’t plan on Kansas not making the tournament any time soon and help get back to a National Title,” Robinson said. ” I will be working on getting faster, stronger, my shot and making it a bit more consistent.”
Having the opportunity to play for and be taught by one of the greatest college basketball players ever, Danny Manning, certainly hasn’t escaped Robinson’s mind.
“He’ the man there! It will be great to play for him and learn from how much he knows about the game,” said Robinson about Danny Manning.
As for the head man himself, Bill Self, honesty is something that stood out to the 6’8″ Brewster Academy (NH) star.
“He’s a cool guy. He told the truth and that is something that I appreciated. The whole staff is great!”
Robinson is the first recruit ,of what could be a monster recruiting class, to sign his LOI sealing his commitment to the Jayhawks. Elijah Johnson is expected to sign on Monday, but the staff isn’t looking to finish there. Recruits such as Xavier Henry and John Wall are also on the radar for Kansas, and Robinson wouldn’t mind playing with either.
“Of course I would love to play with them,” Robinson said about Wall and Henry. “I know both and have a good relationship with both.”
If Coach Self and staff bring in a class made up of Robinson, Johnson, Henry, and Wall, talk of another National Title in 2009 would be daily conversation in Lawrence.
Robinson is a self motivated inside presence on the court. His drive, determination, and pure will are second to none. With his ability to rebound, Robinson will surely find his way on to the court early and often when he arrives in Lawrence this summer. Robinson is also very coach-able. He will soak in what he is being taught and put the work in to put what he is being taught into his game. Thomas Robinson ceiling is high, and he is just beginning the climb towards the top of it.
