Kudos to zagsblog who put up a story today quoting Carl Henry.
“I think the hardest [part] is his brother’s at Memphis,” Carl said. “I believe he wants to go to Kansas but then again with his brother at Memphis, he might want to go there also.”
The anxious week continues.
Ok, does anyone really have a clue as to what is going on? It has been reported for months by Shiver that Xavier was a heavy lean towards Memphis. One would normally think that when his brother signed with Memphis, that would bring Xavier closer to signing with Memphis as well. Now his father states that since his brother is at Memphis, Xavier MIGHT want to go to Memphis as well. He makes it sound like Memphis is just NOW being considered. If his heart is in Kansas, he shouldn`t come to Memphis just to play with his brother.
Oh. The irony? We were guaranteed to have C.J. Henry sign at KU, he plays for the Yankees for a few years and suddenly returns with a love for Memphis. Now we find out that we may lose his brother because he stiffed us. That is unbelievable.
Part of me wonders if Self still even wanted C.J. after he likely developed rust playing baseball. How else do you explain C.J. changing his mind? It’s not as if Memphis has any hardware that would have tilted anything in their favor. This could be one of the stranger developments in KU recruiting history. Oh well. We have a Nat’l Championship and plenty of other guys wanting to come here if Xavier decides to go to Memphis.
Good luck with your decision, X. We would love to see you come experience a school with great tradition and a family-like atmosphere that you will remember for the rest of your life. Memphis is simply not Kansas.
chalmers….It would be ridiculous for me to sit here and say Memphis has the same tradition as Kansas so I won`t. That doesn`t mean Memphis doesn`t have something good to offer these players which obviously we do. If I`m not mistaken, Derrick Rose picked Memphis over a slew of top notch programs including Kansas and it sure didn`t hurt him. Rose did what was best for himself and was rewarded with being a #1 pick. I think that`s how the majority of one and done players think.
CJ Henry was not offered a schooly for the ’09 season to play at KU, I can’t even remember hearing a single thing about his recruitment. It was like his recruitiment happened from 2am-8am one insignificant night, I woke up and CJ had committed to Memphis. I’m pretty sure that coach Cal gave Cj his scholarship banking on it landing him X. I know that they are a short on Schollies over there so we shall see if that works in their favor. I am still convinced that on Thursday X will be a Jayhawk. Watch the video of him at late night singing the alma mater and you will be convinced too!!
C.J. is not on scholarship. His education was paid by the NY Yankees.
Shiver……..As Memphis fan that listens to and reads all the info I can about the recruiting of X, locally and nationally ,I have never heard or seen one report that X was leaning heavily towards Memphis like the Shiver has reported. I think you said it was the “worst kept secret in Memphis”.The best chances I ever heard or read was 50/50. I have no direct connections with the program so maybe I`m missing the boat there. I`m not trying to bust your chops, just curious about where your info comes from.Anyway, I do enjoy and respect the info you put out. Your predictions have been dead on so far.

Memphis was the leader. He almost signed early with them but his family (Carl) got him to delay. Kansas started gaining ground. Memphis saw him slipping away and got CJ to sway X. It was 50/50 when he visited both Memphis & Kansas but it was late night and seeing the national championship raised that tilted him toward KU.
All I am saying is that it looks good for KU. Self is also looking sweet with other recruits.
I said I was a fan that listens to and reads all the info I can…..that doesn`t mean I`ve heard or seen everything said or written. I also said I`ve never heard or seen one report….that does not mean it wasn`t said or written. Since you obviously have more knowledge about it then me, why don`t you enlighten me.

From what is being heard in the last few day – everything looks good for Kansas.

Jack…I agree with you, things are looking better for Kansas. And as much as this is going to hurt me…I predict he`ll end up at Kansas. I think that if he really wanted to come to Memphis that bad, he would have already committed.
I keep hearing the Kansas fans talk about how awesome late night is. To be honest with you, I`m not familiar with it. I can tell you how awesome Memphis Madness is but, I`m sure you really don`t care and I understand. Can someone direct me to a web site with some footage of late night . I`m interested in seeing something on it.

I can`t believe we are getting ourselves all worked up over a player that is only going to play one year. him bouncing back and fourth between memphis and kansas bothers me…… leaning here, leaning there. we need to sign him this week because i believe if all he does is commit to us, he might change his mind again. if he decides to go to memphis, so be it. there is too much talent here for that to bother us. henry is a good talent but we have had better talent before and we will get better talent down the road. if he comes here, good. if not, the world is not coming to an end.

This is what Memphis fans really think. I think the majority of KU fans LOVE college basketball and see it as superior to the NBA. Maybe that is because OUR PLAYERS do LOVE to play college basketball and don’t see it as just a stepping stone to the NBA. When the NBA introduces our players, they say “from the University of Kansas…(fill in the blank)” and not “Derrick Rose from the city of Chicago!!” BTW… who has 3 of the top 10 rookies in the NBA this year according to ESPN? That would be KU.
KUFanatic93 – theshiver isn’t a biased website. they predicted both EJ and TRob to KU instead of Wall and Favors and whoever. They aren’t the homers. Shiver was calling X to Memphis until a recent source changed his mind. Camacho has been strong with his X to KU prediction. They have been very good with this stuff. I’ll trust them enough if guys like Snaer are texting them weekly.
Also, I don’t mind other fans within reason. I think they should be on short leashes. The blind homerism fans can go, but it never hurts to have a real discussion with other fans. It helps us as KU fans understand what those schools don’t have or what they do have or where they are coming from and what they are thinking about.
JHwk and JoeHaWK: A little testy today aren`t we fellas. I don`t recall anywhere on this site where is said comments by KU fans only. I do respect KU and I have made many comments on this site and not once have I ripped your program or it`s fans. I think this site puts out good info and I like sharing my thoughts and hearing KU fans thoughts as well. When I spew venom, it`s towards Duke, Louisville, and those little bitches in orange britches…….Tennessee. For those of you that have a problem with me on this site, I give you two options. 1. Don`t read what I write 2. YOU go to another site. For those who don`t mind me here…Thanks. Big Baker, this is a website dedicated to KU basketball recruiting, among other things. If you think that the people that care about these things have no life why in the f*** are you on this site? When I said “uneducated” I meant it in the frame of college basketball recruiting. Everyone writing on these boards cares about “what team gets what player” , besides you! So I think I speak for everyone when I say, please stay off of our boards if you do not have something relevant to contribute to the conversation.

All schools and certainly all sports message boards have its share of peabrains. After reading this thread that point is certaily confirmed.
For the guy talking about CJs recruitment. There was no recruitment. Don’t forget that Cal has connections to dad also. When CJ decided to play basketball, he and his dad discussed it and then they got in touch with Cal and asked if they had a place for him. Lets see; good athlete, has college paid for, has a brother who is a top recruit….why sure Carl. Tell CJ to come on down!
Both Dad and CJ have said the decision is to be made by X. I suspect he would have already announced if it had not been for the accident and surgery. Either KU or Memphis would be a good fit for him. I wish him well no matter where he lands. Both programs will survive and do fine without him.
