Rumors, facts, rumors, facts, who knows anymore. One thing we do know, is no one should thinking Xavier Henry heading to Memphis just yet. TheShiver.com has learned over the past few days that the Henry recruitment is far from over. By many, Henry was rumored to be a lock, or at the very least, a heavy lean towards Memphis. That no longer seems to be the case, and it might be the exact opposite after this weekend.
One thing we know, the Henry recruitment has certainly been a wild one. Buzz has been flying around about both Kansas and Memphis, but the Henry camp has done a great job of keeping everything close to the vest. Will he commit to Kansas next week? I certainly don’t know. However, I do know that the Jayhawks are in a much better position today then they have been in recent weeks.
I hope you have all enjoyed the roller coaster so far, and the ride may not be over.

You guys are idiots!! Obviously everybody reading and/or posting on this blog loves college basketball. What person would search everyday for a recruit that hasn’t even committed to a school otherwise?? And to say that when Derrick Rose is announced in the NBA it says “from Chicago” instead of “the University of Memphis” is f***ing retarded. HE IS PLAYING FOR HIS HOME TEAM….an intro is all about getting the biggest cheer….and saying a hometown boy is playing for his hometown NBA team will always get a bigger cheer.
Memphis is every bit of a college basketball town as KU is– I know because I have a degree from both schools and had season tickets to both teams in the past. I will always be a Memphis fan 1st, but to think that even w/ a National Championship last year your program is “RANKED” higher in these recruits minds is crazy. Last time (before last year) that KU won a National Championship these kids weren’t even born….most 16, 17 & 18 star recruits don’t care about the past–they care about what will make them millions. I do believe these kids love college basketball, but eventually the guys we are talking about want to be NBA stars, not a hometown college hero. I want X in Memphis next year, but if Kansas,I will still cheer for him and be some-what happy!! But it is time for the self-proclaimed “Super Powers” (aka UNC, Duke, Kansas, UCLA, Kentucky, etc etc) to get off their high horse and understand Memphis is right up there with these schools and in a lot of cases ahead….because over the past 5-6 years Memphis has been fun, exciting & more importantly WINNING…and doing it in a National Spotlight. You may have won the National Championship…but every college website I have read is talking Memphis ten times more than KU (ESPN, CBS, Rivals…I could go on). Go Tigers, sorry to vent.
that wat they all say so just lot him pack wat school and get off has back
Brian,
congratulations on attending KU and Memphis, thats quite impressive. You are by far more knowledgeable than most fans on this site because you spent too long in college. I for one got my bachelors and Law degree at THE University of Kansas. Is it possible that I am a knowledgeable sports fan also even though I only attended a single university? “Memphis is every bit of a college basketball town as KU is”, that statement is laughable. I don’t care if you had a winning team the last 5-7 years, there is no place like Lawrence. Enjoy your ride, as soon as a better program comes calling, and there are many of them, Coach Cal is gone. Then we won’t have to battle you anymore, because recruits won’t want to be there. Recruits sign with Coach Cal not Memphis. Lose him and your program is nothing.
Oh and if you don’t think a National Championship boosts recruiting your just stupid. A tournament appearance alone, depending on the school has potential to do great things for recruiting.
Joe Hawk, I do love your enthusiasm for your school but you got to keep it real man. There is no place like Lawrence….now that is a laughable statement. To a kansas fan, ok. But to the fans of ucla, memphis, georgetown and here at tennessee….I don`t think so. You need to remember this, nobody outside of Lawrence feels that way about kansas. Nothing personal, that`s just how being a fan for whatever program you support works. Be assured of this, vol fans don`t even think about Kansas, just kicking Memphis and Kentucky`s butts. I know that might be hard to digest but like I said earlier, only the people from Lawrence feel that way about Lawrence. Go Vols!!!!
Brian………Memphis was an irrelevant Basketball program before the 05-06 season. They finished 6th in their league the year before and since 2000 they have been in the NIT 3 times. The last 3 years they have had a ridiculous record that any school would be proud of. Funny enough these ridiculous records have come after Louisville, Cincinnati and Marquette all left Conference USA. If Memphis played in the Big 12, SEC, ACC, Big East or Pac 10 they would have 3 or 4 more losses a year in Conference. These Memphis Tiger fans sound like they know about as much as Missouri Tiger fans and are about as relevant!!
rHawk: If Memphis had played in another conference there was that chance that we might have lost more games but we don`t. You just can`t up and leave a conference when ever you feel like it. Believe me, Memphis fans wish we were in another conference but we`re not so we play our conference games and then try to have a tough non-conference schedule. Since Louisville left the conference, they have refused to play us. Might be a Calipari and Pitino thing, not sure. Cincy play us once and now refuse to play. I do know that are non-conference schedule prepares us enough to put serious wood to the likes of UCLA and Texas and make it to the championship game. Remember this, while Memphis and Kansas were playing for the national championship, all of the other teams were at home watching. By the way, Kentucky hasn`t had a good team in years, are they now an irrelevant program?
Joey
I hear you man…but theres always a little room for passion and maybe a some boasting when talking sports. Of course everything you said goes WITHOUT saying. However, I do believe Tennessee fans think about us when we win the National Championship over one of your biggest rivals! keep it real JOEY
Dude i just read your commets. You have serious fucking problems, and you work for the shiver. I know we are not getting Xavier Henry because everything you write is pretty much one a sided view point. That means all these stories will be pretty much be bias and not a reliable source.
This was on espn.com today, I couldn’t believe this cam out of coach Cal’s mouth.
“Lawrence wasn’t as impacted. That’s their fifth national title. Here in Memphis, we all needed this. We all needed that. We deserved to do it. So what we’re at Memphis? So what we’re not in the BCS? We had the best team.”
They had the best team? I think not
Joey……I’m sorry this isn’t a women’s basketball site. Wow, Tennessee lets really talk about irrelevant in men’s basketball tell 3 years ago. Lawrence was one of the 20 finalists for ESPN’s Title-town competition just like Knoxville! I’m pretty sure that anyone that is a college basketball fan knows about Lawrence, KS the University of Kansas and Allen Fieldhouse. If you respect the game of college basketball you should probably have some knowledge of KU, UCLA, NC, Indiana and Kentucky. Why are you on a Kansas Basketball site making a comment if you don’t care or think of Kansas? How did you get here? Will the people of Knoxville be talking about Kansas on Jan 3, 2009? Well, I hope so because you will be playing KU in Allen Fieldhouse!
rhawk….you really don`t want any of us this year. look at the polls and see what you`re getting into before bumping your gums my man. As JoeHawk would say….there`s always a little room for passion and some boasting when talking sports so don`t get your panties in a wad.
Brian….I understand your point. Unfortunately, Kentucky will always be a relevant program because of the tradition and the history even if they have been down for 5 years. They will be back and it will probably be pretty soon. If Memphis, Tennessee, Louisville and Florida continue to recruit the way they have been it works against Kentucky but I guarantee that Billy Gillespie will get Kentucky back!
Joey….How was I bumping my gums? Everything I said was true. I didn’t say KU would win. I asked if you would be thinking of us and you proved my point that you would! Tennessee has a good team this year and will continue to under Bruce Pearl. Why don’t you put your jump to conclusions mat away?
WOW, a lot of testosterone on this site tonight. I hear X mans decision might be put off again. Can someone fill me in if that`s the case.
And loses to Bucknell and Bradley in the 1st round make you such a power house to Xavier Henry and John Wall!!!
They don’t care that you have been to 7 Final Fours in the past 23 years…or that you havn’t had a losing season in over a quarter century. As great as your program has been over the past 25 years; do you know how many top 10 draft picks have come out of Kansas?? 5!! Do you know how many have come out of Memphis?? 5!!!
Don’t you think that holds a little weight for the X Henrys & John Walls of the world???
They want to know, what have you done for me lately???
And this is exactly why Memphis & Kansas are battling for the top talent….they played in the National Championship last year..the year before that, the Elite 8. What happened in 1994 is irrelevant (atleast for a 5-star recruit).
Memphis fans greatly respect Kansas, their program & fans. You are a premier program. But, you have to get off your high horse and know that Memphis isn’t George Mason (or in your case a Bucknell or Bradley). We have been a prestigous program for several decades now, and continue to get better with better coaching and talent.
Memphis is here to stay as a national contender, we know it–bout time you give us the same respect we give to you.
As well as the rest of the nation!! May the best program get the recruits we both covet. See you in March 2010-Rematch Baby!!
Brian,
Come on man, we just won the title and you have to bring up early tournament exits. I guess we should bring up the fact that you have only been in the tournament (just a guess) like 10 times in your schools history.
Obama 08
Kansas currently has 13 active players on NBA rosters- Arthur, Chalmers, Collison, Gooden, Hinrich, Jackson, LaFrenz, Pierce, Pollard, Rush, Simien, Vaughn, and Wright.
How many does Memphis have? Which school sends more players to the NBA? Do the math.
I don’t think Brain understands math when he claims Memphis is a ” … prestigous program for several decades now …” The last few years maybe, but decades? Come on, you don’t even play in a real league! And as of mid-October they hadn’t even sold out of season tickets! The #1 ranking last year was the first in 25 years. I guess you can always be proud of that 2004 NIT ring,
I could go on and on, but I’ll stop and leave you with this. In 2005 Street & Smith’s ranks KU the 4th best basketball program of all time. Where was Memphis? You’ll have to look in the 60′s-
http://daresler.net/info/top/basketball-programs/
Sorry, you’ll have to earn respect.
A typo in my last post. Memphis won the NIT in 2002, not 2004.
